Evaluación de la huella hídrica del ciclo integral del agua de la Mancomunidad de la Comarca de Pamplona

El conocimiento de la huella hídrica de una organización permite evaluar la magnitud, identificar oportunidades de mejora y tomar decisiones eficientes sobre potenciales impactos ambientales relacionados con la gestión del agua. Este trabajo estima la Huella Hídrica del Ciclo Integral del Agua de la Mancomunidad de la Comarca de Pamplona. Evalúa el peso que tiene en ella cada uno de los productos y servicios ofrecidos, para conocer el volumen total de agua consumido y los factores más influyentes sobre el resultado. El análisis se basa en la Norma ISO 14046 y aplica las directrices definidas por The Water Footprint Assessment Manual en lo que se refiere a la realización del inventario y al proceso de cálculo. El estudio cuantifica la Huella Hídrica del Ciclo Integral del Agua para el año 2014 en 5.790.817 m3 y desvela que más de un 60% de esta cantidad corresponde al Agua No Registrada en abastecimiento. Trabajos posteriores deberían desagregar de este valor el volumen de pérdidas reales e invertir en sistemas de detección de fugas para reducir la Huella. Se aprecia, asimismo, la conveniencia de realizar estudios específicos de los caudales de alivios y sus parámetros de calidad, que junto a otros de la EDAR de Arazuri, permitirá evaluar la Huella Hídrica Gris y diseñar actuaciones que minimicen el impacto sobre el río Arga.

The Business Water Footprint represents a tool which allows an organization to assess and identify opportunities for the improvement, as well as to make efficient decisions concerning watermanagement related environmental impacts. This paper estimates the Water Footprint of the Integral Water Cycle of the Mancomunidad de la Comarca de Pamplona. It evaluates the relative weight of each product and service provided in order to find the overall water consumption and the most influential factors on the outcome. The analysis is based on the ISO 14046 standard following the guidelines given by The Water Footprint Assessment Manual regarding the inventory and the calculation process. The study shows that the overall water footprint of the Integral Water Cycle was 5,790,817 m3 in the year 2014. It reveals that more than 60% of this amount corresponds to Non-Registered Water. Further work should be focused on the disaggregating the volume of real losses of water from this value and invest in leak-detection-systems, which would reduce the footprint. Specific studies are needed to measure flow rates and quality of wastewater in sewage network spillways. Along with other studies of effluents from the Arazuri Wastewater Treatment Plant, the grey water footprint could be measured and actions designed in order to minimize the impact on the Arga river.
