The vomeronasal organ plays a crucial role in various social and reproductive behaviour in animals. Histochemically, the cytoplasm of epithelial cells, cells lining serous acini of vomeronasal organ at the level of papilla incisiva showed a positive reaction for PAS. Few glands present in the dorsolateral region and the cartilage showed positive reaction for the acid mucopolysaccharides by PAS-AB method. At the level of first palatine rugae, the glands showed moderate reaction for PAS and PAS-AB. At the level of third palatine rugae, the cytoplasm of epithelial cells and cells lining the glandular ducts showed a positive reaction for PAS. At the level of fifth palatine rugae, few glands exhibited both acidic and neutral mucopolysaccharides by PAS-AB method. The glands in the ventrolateral region showed positive reaction for AB. The cartilage showed a strong positive reaction for both acidic and neutral mucopolysaccharides by PAS-AB method at all the above mentioned rugae levels.
