Caracterización de la fauna íctica de profundidad encontrada en las fallas y cuencas del Golfo de California, México | Characterization of the deep-sea fish fauna found in the faults and basins of the Gulf of California, México

En el presente trabajo se presenta la composición específica de peces de profundidad en el Golfo de California, haciendo uso del material video-gráfico obtenido durante 26 inmersiones (373 y3,800 m) de un vehículo sumergible remotamente operado desde el B/I Atlantis, en mayo de 2008. Se observaron e identificaron 2,858 individuos que pertenecieron a 85 especies, 31géneros, 21 familias y 13 taxones, ubicados dentro de las clases Chondrichthyes, Actinopterygii yMyxini. Se elaboró un catálogo de las especies, incluyendo los atributos batimétricos, físicoquímicosy geomorfológicos de sus hábitats. Su abundancia relativa fue calculada sobre el área ytiempo muestreado durante cada inmersión. La caracterización de la comunidad de peces según elhábitat se realizó mediante pruebas estadísticas multivariadas, análisis de correlación e índicesecológicos. La distribución de la abundancia absoluta de organismos y del número de especies anivel vertical y horizontal en el golfo se analizó con estadística univariada y pruebas decorrelación, y se graficó para observar sus tendencias. En la clase Myxini se identificó una solaespecie. Dentro de los Chondrichthyes, el orden Chimaeriformes estuvo representado por cuatroespecies y dos géneros pertenecientes a las familias Chimaeridae y Rhinochimaeridae. El ordenRajiformes presentó nueve especies dentro de la familia Rajidae y una dentro de la familiaRhinobatidae, en el orden Carcharhiniformes se encontraron cinco especies dentro de la familiaScyliorhinidae. En la clase Actinopterygii se identificaron 65 especies pertenecientes a 21géneros y 15 familias. Asimismo, se encontraron 13 taxones que no pudieron ser ubicados dentrode alguna familia. La mayor riqueza de especies se encontró en valores de temperatura de 1.9-5.0°C y de salinidad de 34.54-34.68, en fondos lodosos y lodosos con rocas. De toda la fauna ícticaidentificada, 19 especies en su mayoría de la clase Actinopterygii, fueron las más abundantes. Lafamilia Macrouridae fue la única que se observó ocupando ambientes con diferentes condiciones.La distribución de la abundancia absoluta de organismos y del número de especies de pecesmostró una tendencia clara con la profundidad con los valores más altos entre 1,000 y 1,500 m,pero no con la latitud.

This study presents the deep fish species composition in the Gulf of California, using videographicmaterial obtained during 26 dives (373 and 3,800 m) of a submersible vehicle remotelyoperated from the R/V Atlantis, in May 2008. I observed and identified 2,858 individualsbelonging to 85 species, 31 genera, 21 families, and 13 taxa located within the Chondrichthyes,Actinopterygii, and Myxini classes. A fish species catalog was produced including bathymetric,physical-chemical, and geomorphological attributes of fish species habitats. The organisms’relative abundance was estimated by sampled area and time during each of the dives. Therelationship of the fish community with habitat was analyzed by using multivariate statisticaltests, correlation analysis, and ecological indices. The distribution of organisms’ absoluteabundance and of the species’ number found vertically and horizontally in the Gulf, was analyzedwith univariate statistical and correlation tests, and plotted to observe their trends. For the Myxiniclass only one species was indentified. Within Chondrichthyes, the Chimaeridae order wasrepresented by four species and two genera belonging to Rhinochimaeridae and Chimaeridaefamilies. The Rajiformes order was represented by nine species within the Rajidae family, andone within the Rhinobatidae family, in the Carcharhiniformes order five species of theScyliorhinidae family were found. Sixty five species of the Actinopterygii class were identified,belonging to 21 genera, and 15 families. Also, I found 13 taxa that belong to the Actinopterygiiclass, but no family could be ascribed. The highest species richness was associated withtemperatures of 1.9-5.0 °C, and salinities of 34.54-34.68, on muddy and rocky bottoms. Of all thefish fauna identified, 19 species, mostly belonging to the Actinopterygii class, were the mostabundant. Macrouridae was the only family observed occupying environments with differentconditions. The organisms’ absolute abundance and species number distribution showed a cleartrend with depth, presenting the highest values between 1,000 and 1,500 m. No trend was foundwith latitude.
