India, as the world’s major irrigating country uses the largest share of its water resources for irrigation purposes. The demand for water from both the agricultural and the non_agricultural sectors is growing rapidly, causing an increased pressure on available water resources. In many areas overexploitation of the resources and environmental degradation are already experienced.
