Paraguayan beef exports, before and during COVID-19: slaughter, animal category, prices, revenue, and destination | Exportación de la carne bovina paraguaya, antes y durante el COVID-19: faena, categoría animal, precios, ingresos y destino

英语. . The objective of this research was to evaluate Paraguayan beef exports, before and during COVID-19. The data used were collected directly from the SENACSA website. The evaluated variables were grouped before (2017, 2018, 2019) and during (2020, 2021, 2022) COVID-19. Number of heads slaughtered by animal category, total volume (kg/year), total value (US$/year), kilogram value (US$/kg), destination and range of export prices in meat volume (kg and %) before and during COVID-19 were collected and analyzed. Data were submitted to Student's t test for paired samples. No increase in the number of slaughtered cattle was observed (P=0.087), however, 437,783 more animals were verified during COVID-19. Slaughter in bull category (P<0.001) increased during COVID-19 and steers decreased (P<0.001), while cows remained in slaughter number. The total volume of meat exported, the total value and prices per kilogram of meat exported have increased during COVID-19. Chile, Russia and Brazil accounted for 74.7% and 71.3% of Paraguayan beef imports. There was no statistical difference (P>0.05) before and during the volume exported for the evaluated price ranges. The Paraguayan livestock scenario benefited during COVID-19 with increases in the values and quantities of exported meat, a scenario that will depend on the continuity of demand from the main importing countries and the balance of the herd, such as retention of bellies, in addition to diversification of export destinations, ceasing to concentrate in a few countries.

西班牙语; 卡斯蒂利亚语. Se tuvo como objetivo en esta investigación evaluar las exportaciones de la carne bovina paraguaya, antes y durante el COVID-19. Los datos utilizados fueron colectados directamente de la página web del SENACSA. Las variables evaluadas fueron agrupadas en antes (2017, 2018, 2019) y durante (2020, 2021, 2022) el COVID-19. Número de cabeza faenadas por categoría animal, volumen total (kg/año), valor total (US$/año), valor por kilogramo (US$/kg), destino y rango de precios de exportación en volumen de carne (kg y %) antes y durante el COVID-19 fueron recabados y analizados. Los datos fueron sometidas al test T de Student para muestras pareadas. No fue observado aumento en el número de bovinos faenados (P=0,087). Faena de la categoría toros (P=0,001) aumentó durante el COVID-19 y novillos disminuyeron (P=0,001), mientras, vacas se mantuvo en número de faena. El volumen total de carne exportada, valor total y precios por kilogramo de la carne exportada aumentaron durante el COVID-19. Chile, Rusia y Brasil fueron responsables del 74,7% y 71,3% de las importaciones de la carne bovina paraguaya. No hubo diferencia estadística (P=>0,05) antes y durante en el volumen exportado para los rangos de precios evaluados. El escenario de la pecuaria paraguaya fue beneficiado durante el COVID-19 con aumentos en los valores y cantidades de carne exportada, escenario que dependerá de la continuidad de demanda de los principales países importadores y del equilibrio del rebaño como retención de vientres, además, de diversificación de los destinos de la exportación, dejando de concentrar en pocos países.
