Onthophagus gazella como agente de reciclagem de nutrientes em pastagens.

RESUMO - Foi conduzido um experimento, em condições de campo, com o objetivo de se medir a contribuição do besouro coprofago Onthophagus gazella a reciclagem de nitrogênio (N) e fósforo (P) de fezes bovinas frescas. Isolaram-se áreas de 1,0 m2 em uma pastagem de Brachiaria decumbens, usando-se gaiolas de ferro cobertas por uma tela tipo sombrite, para os seguintes tratamentos: a) testemunhas; b) adição de 10 kg de fezes bovinas frescas sem besouro; c) adição de 10 kg de fezes bovinas frescas e 30 casais do besouro; d) testemunha adubada com o equivalente a 10 kg N/ha (ureia), 100 kg P2O/ha (superfosfato simples) e 100 kg K2O/ha (KCI). Dez dias após a adição das fezes, os besouros haviam enterrado cerca de 70% do total adicionado, o que demonstra sua eficiência como limpadores da pastagem e agentes de reciclagem deste tipo de matéria orgânica. Cinquenta dias após o estabelecimento do experimento as plantas foram colhidas, separando-se folhas e talos, os quais foram secos, pesados, moídos e analisados em seus teores de N e P. Verificou-se diferença significativa (P<0,01) para os efeitos de tratamentos quanto as produções de matéria seca das plantas e os teores totais de N e P extraídos pelas plantas. Embora no tratamento com besouro tenha se observando uma tendência de maior produção e teores totais de N, não se verificou diferença significativa entre este tratamento e os demais no curto período entre enterro das fezes e a colheita para estes parâmetros. Entretanto, nos teores de P das plantas verificou-se que no tratamento com besouro estes foram iguais ao da testemunha adubada, e superiores aos demais tratamentos. ABSTRACT - It was conducted a field experiment in order to measure the contribution of the coprophagous beetle Onthophagus gazella to the recycling of N and P from fresh bovine dung. One square meter areas of Brachiaria decumbens were isolated using a fine mesh covered cage for the following treatments: a) control; b) 10 kg of fresh bovine dung, without beetle: c) 10 kg fresh bovine dung plus 30 pairs of O. gazella; d) control fertilized with N, P, and K. Ten days after adding the dung, the beetles had enterred about 70% of the total added, which testify about their efficiency as cleaners of the pasture and agents of recycling. Fifty days after the experiment establishment the plants were harvested, separated into leaves and stems, dryied, weighed, milled, and analyzed for their N and P content. There was a significative difference (P>0.01) for the effects of treatments related to the plant dry matter and N and P extraction. Although there was a tendency of increasing production and total N content in the treatment with beetles, it was not observed a significant diference for this treatment above the others in this short time betwee commencement of the experiment and harvest. However, the total P content of the plants in the beetle treatment was compared to the fertilized control, being both significantly superior to the remaining treatments.
