A method for testing the bioavailability of pesticides in water/sediment system was established using 2 herbicides, namely Stomp SC (available component pendimethalin) and Hora Flo SC (available component isoproturon), as testing medicaments, as well as Sencedesmus subspicatus as the non-target organism. Adsorption of the herbicides in the system was lower than the predicted value. The bioavailability of the herbicides was mainly determined by their polarities. The lipophilic pendimethalin was strongly adsorbed by the artificial sediment, thus holding low bioavailability on the algae. In addition, bioavailability of the herbicides might be related to the existence of dissolved organic carbon in water.
