Can integrated pesticides improve biological control of Bemisia tabaci in Euphorbia pulcherrima?

Bemisia tabaci is a common pest in the production of Euphorbia pulcherrima. Biological control is difficult because Encarsia formosa parasitises B. tabaci to a lesser extent than its regular host Trialeurodes vaporariorum. Another reason for the decrease in efficacy during the last years has been the side effects of different pesticides. In previous trials it was shown that E. formosa can be very efficient in parasitising B. tabaci and develop large populations. Nevertheless from an economic point of view it is useful to integrate selective insecticides. Dipping infested cuttings in insecticide solutions can r.educe initial infestation on a large scale. In greenhouse trials two E. formosa per plant proved to be very efficient in controlling B. tabaci. When the insecticide NeemAzal-T/S (a.i. azadirachtin) was integrated, one wasp per plant resulted in sufficient control.
