Gesundheitsbeschwerden nach Kerndämmung mit UF-Ortschaum | Formaldehyde poisoning following double-wall masonry insulation with UF-foam

德语. Zweischaliges Hohlraum-Mauerwerk mit einer 6 bis 8 cm dicken Luftschicht zwischen der äußeren und inneren Wand ist eine in Norddeutschland häufig anzutreffende Bauweise. Zwecks wärmetechnischer Ertüchtigung werden seit Kurzem verstärkt Hohlraumdämmungsverfahren mit Zulassung des Deutschen Instituts für Bautechnik (DIBt) beworben. Dabei wird der Hohlraum zwischen dem inneren Mauerwerk und der äußeren Verklinkerung mit Dämmmaterial aufgefüllt. Nach einer solchen Kerndämmung mit UF-Ortschaum kam es bei einer Mieterin zu massiven Gesundheitsbeschwerden. Im Verlauf von drei Monaten nach der Baumaßnahme lagen die im Innenraum gemessenen Konzentrationen an Formaldehyd zwischen 200 und 900 µg/m3, weit über dem Richtwert von 0,1 ppm (125 µg/m³), und machten die Mietwohnung unbewohnbar.

英语. Double-shell masonry construction with a cavity of 6 to 8 cm between the two walls is common in Northern Germany. To improve the energy efficiency, core insulation with foam has been advertised more recently. The German Institute for Building Construction (DIBt) has approved a technical procedure where insulation material is blown between the inner and outer layer of the brick walls. We report a case study following an insulation of the cavity with an urea-formaldehyde-foam (UF-foam). In the course of 3 months following the application of the foam, formaldehyde in indoor air was measured between 200 µg/m³ and 900 µg/m³ in the living room and the bedroom, exceeding the current German air quality guideline of 125 µg/m³ and rendered the flat uninhabitable. The symptoms of the tenant are consistent with formaldehyde poisoning and the time course of exposure.
