The use of a custom Mg-3Pb alloy as a sacrificial anode for protecting AZ31, AM60, and AZ91 Mg alloys in 0.1 M NaCl solution was evaluated using surface characterization, mass loss, electrochemical measurements, and gravimetric H collection. The Mg-3Pb alloy exhibited consistently lower open circuit potential values than the protected alloys and demonstrated protection efficiencies over 95 %. No polarity reversal or cathodic activation was observed, despite increased anomalous H evolution. These findings confirm the effectiveness and viability of Mg-3Pb alloy as a sacrificial anode for the cathodic protection of AZ31, AM60, and AZ91 Mg alloys.
