Starptautiskais Meža nozares organizāciju savienības (IUFRO) 26. kongress Stokholmā, Zviedrijā

LVMI “Silava” research assistants Toms Štāls and Kārlis Dūmiņš, researcher Linda Gerra-Inohosa, leading researcher Zane Lībiete and several other LVMI “Silava” employees participated in the XXVI World Congress of the International Union of Forestry Organizations (IUFRO) from June 23 to 29, 2024. More than 4,200 delegates from 102 countries around the world participated in the congress; 3,400 presentations were given during the sessions. At more than 70 exhibition stands, it was possible to get acquainted with information about forest research and educational institutions, various state agencies and non-governmental organizations, as well as companies and the services they offer. Within the framework of scientific sessions from Monday to Friday morning, conference participants supplemented their knowledge of the latest research results and issues in the following topics: 1) forests for a sustainable society, 2) strengthening the resilience and adaptive capacity of forests, 3) moving towards a responsible forest bioeconomy, 4) forest biodiversity and ecosystem services, 5) forests for the future. Due to the very large number of sessions, it was possible to attend only a small part of them, of which the most interesting findings, as well as relevant references and links, if any, are summarized below. The sessions included both oral and poster presentations. The congress created an opportunity to promote the visibility of LVMI “Silava” both through an exhibition stand and informing interested parties about the institute’s work directions and implemented research, as well as establishing personal contacts. During the congress, a meeting was organized with the representative of Linnaeus University Erika Olafsson and the possibilities of preparing a joint research application on innovative methods in private forest management were discussed. Also, with the representative of the Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen), Patrik Karlsson, the possibilities of cooperation between the LIFE project “Life is Salaca” coordinated by “Silava” and the project GRIPonLIFE coordinated by the Swedish Forest Agency were discussed. Kongresā piedalījās vairāk nekā 4200 delegātu no 102 pasaules valstīm; sesiju ietvaros tika sniegtas 3400 prezentācijas. Vairāk nekā 70 izstādes stendos bija iespējams iepazīties ar informāciju gan par meža pētniecības un izglītības iestādēm, gan par dažādām valsts aģentūrām un nevalstiskajām organizācijām, gan ar uzņēmumiem un to piedāvātajiem pakalpojumiem. Zinātnisko sesiju ietvaros no pirmdienas līdz piektdienas rītam konferences dalībnieki papildināja zināšanas par jaunāko pētījumu rezultātiem un problemātiku sekojošās tēmās: 1) meži ilgtspējīgai sabiedrībai, 2) mežu noturības un adaptācijas spēju stiprināšana, 3) virzība uz atbildīgu meža bioekonomiku, 4) meža bioloģiskā daudzveidība un ekosistēmu pakalpojumi, 5) meži nākotnei. Ļoti lielā sesiju skaita dēļ bija iespēja apmeklēt tikai nelielu daļu no tām, no kurām interesantākās atziņas, kā arī atbilstošās atsauces un saites, ja tādas piefiksētas, ir apkopotas turpmāk. Sesijās bija iekļauti gan mutiskie, gan stenda ziņojumi.
