Chang, S.W.
Recently, the number of park golf course in South Korea has been rapidly increasing. However, no extensive research on turfgrass or soil management has been conducted in park golf courses. In this study, we investigated the status of some park golf courses and the types of turfgrass used in South Korea. Among regional provinces, the highest number of park golf courses is founded in Gyeongsangbukdo (62, 15.5%), followed by Gyeongsangnamdo (60, 15.1%), and Gyeonggido (43, 10.8%). The total number of park golf courses holes is was 1,431 in Gyeongsangbukdo (18.5%), 1,125 in Gyeongsangnamdo (14.6%), and 720 in Gyeonggido (9.3%). Park golf courses are primarily located near streams or rivers, accounting for 63.6%, with 40.3% being 18-hole courses and 35.4% being 9-hole courses, respectively. Some are also located in urban parks or sports facilities. All park golf courses feature artificial grassteeing areas, and Zoysia japonica fairways. The putting greens consist of artificial grass, Z. japonica, or a combination of turfgrass protection mats and Z. japonica. Considering the current trend of new construction and the expansion of park golf courses in South Korea, a continuing increase anticipated in the future. Turfgrass management research is likely to be necessary to enhance user satisfaction and ensure environmental protection.
