Ileal and faecal digestibilities of nitrogen, amino acids, energy, and cell wall components of toasted jackbean [Canavalia ensiformis (L.)] in pigs | Digestibilidades ileal y fecal en cerdos, del nitrógeno, aminoácidos, energía y componentes de la pared celular de granos tostados de Canavalia ensiformis (L.)

英语. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the ileal and faecal digestibilities of various dietary components of toasted Canavalia ensiformis (194± 2°C x 18 min) in pigs. Eight castrated male pigs (20 kg, on the average) were surgically modified to create an ileo rectal anastomosis for use in an ileal digestibility trial. In addition, eight pigs (29.5kg) were used in a fecal digestibility trial. In both experiments, apparent digestibility coefficients of dry matter, nitrogen, neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), ether extract, energy and amino acids were estimated. Chemical analysis of raw and toasted canavalia, including canavanine and haemoagglutinating activity, were determined. A standard basal diet was prepared. Twenty percent of toasted canavalia were mixed thoroughly with the basal diet. The data indicated that toasting of raw canavalia seeds reduced total amino acids and their digestibilities in approximately 50%. The original canavanine content in raw canavalia beans was reduced by 95% following toasting. No haemagglutination activity was detected in toasted canavalia beans. NDF and ADF contents in the raw seeds were markedly increased due to the toasting procedure employed. Total amino acid digestibility in toasted seeds was estimated to be 52.8%. In summary, although toasting the raw beans of Canavalia ensiformis at 194°C/18min was effective to reduce or abolish the antinutricional effects of the raw seeds, the resulting nutritional value of the toasted seeds for growing pigs was rather low.

Para evaluar el valor nutricional de los granos tostados (194°C x 18 min) de Canavalia ensiformis en cerdos se efectuaron dos ensayos de balance utilizando las metodologías de recolección ileal y fecal, respectivamente. En el ensayo de digestibilidad ileal, ocho cerdos machos, castrados (20 kg) fueron quirúrgicamente modificados para crear una anastomosis íleo-rectal. Adicionalmente, ocho cerdos intactos (29,5 kg) fueron empleados para estimar la digestibilidad fecal. En ambos experimentos, los coeficientes de digestibilidad aparente de la materia seca, nitrógeno, fibra detergente neutra (FDN), fibra detergente ácido, extracto etéreo, aminoácidos y energía fueron determinados. Se realizaron análisis químicos de los granos crudos y tostados de canavalia, incluyendo el contenido de canavanina y la actividad hemaglutinante, como un indicio de la presencia de la lectina Concanavalina A. Se formuló una dieta basal, la cual fue mezclada con 20% de canavalia tostada. En comparación con los granos crudos, el tostado resultó en un aumento de las fracciones FDN y hemicelulosa y una disminución del almidón disponible y el contenido total de aminoácidos. La canavanina fue reducida en un 95% y no se detectó actividad hemaglutinante. Los granos tostados presentaron bajos coeficientes de digestibilidad ileal y fecal de la materia seca, nitrógeno, aminoácidos y FDN. Se concluye que aun cuando el tostado logró eliminar casi totalmente los factores antinutricionales presentes en los granos crudos de canavalia, la calidad nutricional de los granos tostados para cerdos en crecimiento es baja.
