英语. Since the 1970', animal welfare protection has been continuously enlarged and strengthened in Community law, especially in recent years. On the international scene, the European Union (EU) promotes high standards of animal welfare protection and wishes to continue to be a leading figure in this field as a supranational organization. But despite now well grounded account of animal welfare in Community law, some progress are lower than others, and this protection still lacunar. What evaluation can be made of the animal welfare protection in the EU at the end of 2012? As regards to the sources of primary law (treaties) and secondary law (directives and regulations), this article provides for a mitigated evaluation of this protection. However, the EU continues to move forward and new advances are coming in order to better protect animals as sentient beings

西班牙语; 卡斯蒂利亚语. Desde 1970, la protección del bienestar animal en la legislación comunitaria ha continuado su expansión y fortalecimiento, especialmente en los últimos años. En el ámbito internacional, la Unión Europea (UE) promueve un alto nivel de protección y seguirá siendo un líder en esta materia en tanto que organización supranacional. Pero, aunque partamos de la base de que el bienestar animal está bien regulado por la legislación comunitaria, algunos avances son más tímidos que otros, y esta protección es aún incompleta. ¿Qué conclusiones podemos sacar de la protección comunitaria del bienestar animal a finales de 2012? En cuanto a las fuentes de Derecho primario (tratados) y sus normas (directivas y reglamentos), este artículo ofrece un panorama mixto de esta protección. Sin embargo, la UE sigue adelante y es necesario seguir avanzando con el fin de proteger mejor a los animales como seres sensibles.

法语. Depuis les années 1970', la protection du bien-être animal n'a cessé de s'étendre et de se renforcer en droit communautaire, surtout depuis ces dernières années. Sur la scène internationale, l'Union européenne (UE) promeut des normes élevées de protection et entend continuer à faire figure de leader en la matière en tant qu'organisation supranationale. Mais malgré une prise en compte désormais bien ancrée du bien-être animal en droit communautaire, certains progrès sont plus timides que d'autres, et cette protection est encore lacunaire. Quel bilan dresser de la protection communautaire du bien-être animal en cette fin 2012? En regard des sources de droit primaire (traités) et de droit dérivé (directives et règlements), cet article permet de dresser un bilan mitigé de cette protection. Toutefois, l'UE va de l'avant et de nouvelles avancées sont à venir afin de mieux protéger les animaux en tant qu'êtres sensibles.
