L’Andorra agrícola dels segles XVI al XVIII: entre terres i prats | Farming in Andorra from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century: between land and field

El treball que presento és una primera aproximació a l’evolució de l’agricultura a Andorra, especialment durant els segles XVI i XVIII, moment en què l’agricultura ha d’adaptar-se a les necessitats que imposa la pràctica comercial ramadera i concretament la necessitat d’herva i pastures per alimentar el bestiar. També s’exposen les principals tècniques de conreus i els productes cultivats al país. Finalment es situa l’agricultura del període modern a Andorra respecte d’altres moments històrics més pròspers (període medieval) o decadents (s.XIX-XX). L’estudi s’ha realitzat a partir dels testimonis d’alguns autors del segle XVIII que ens han deixat els seus punts de vista en diverses monografies i de les fonts documentals procedents de l’Arxiu Nacional d’Andorra. El treball vol ser un primer element de reflexió per la realització d’altres estudis d’història agraria sobre Andorra més específics.

This paper offers a first approach to the development of farming in Andorra, especially from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, a period in which farming had to be adapted to the needs imposed by the commercial practice of stockbreeding and, specifically, the need for grass and pastures to feed livestock. The main crop-growing techniques and products produced in the country are also described. Finally, farming in Andorra in the modern age is considered with respect to other periods that were more prosperous (Middle Ages) or marked by decline (c19-20).The study was conducted on the basis of reports by certain eighteenth century authors who recorded their points of view in various monographs and documentary sources housed in the Andorran National Archive. The paper offers an initial set of reflections on the basis of which other more specific historical studies of farming in Andorra may be carried out.
