Effect of post–emergence herbicides on complex weed flora, growth and yield of mungbean (Vigna radiata) under rainfed conditions of Rajasthan

A field experiment was conducted for three consecutive years (2021-23) at Agricultural Research Sub-Station, Nagaur, Agriculture University, Jodhpur during rainy season to evaluate the efficacy of different postemergence herbicides for complex weed flora, growth and yield of mungbean with twelve treatments laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The results revealed that post-emergence application of Imazethapyr @ 50 g/ha controlled almost grassy and broad leaves weeds but its efficacy was low against Rhinchosia minima and Cyprus rotundus. The lowest density (No./m2) of Rhinchosia minima (5.6), Digera arvensis (1.2), Celosia argentea (6.5), Cyperus rotundus (5.6), Dactyloctenium aegyptium (2.7), other broad leaves & grassy weeds (2.3), total weed dry weight (8.8 g/m2) and highest weed control efficiency (81.5%) was recorded under application of sodium acifluorfen 16.5%+ clodinafop-propargyl 8% EC at the rate of 220 g/ ha, closely followed by fomesafen 11.1% w/w + fluazip-P-Butyl 11.1%at the rate of 220 g/ha. These treatments also resulted in significant improvement in number of seeds per pod (13.5), 1000 grain weight (44.5 gm), grain yield (1.24 t/ha), gross returns (`1,05,173/ha), net returns (`71,173/ha), BC ratio (2.2) and weed index (9.1). It was concluded that application of sodium acifluorfen 16.5%+ clodinafop-propargyl 8% EC (Ready-mix) or fomesafen 11.1%w/w + fluazip-P-butyl 11.1% (Ready-mix) @ 220 g/ha can be used at 20-25 days after sowing for control of complex weed flora in mungbean for higher yields and returns.
