This study was conducted to determine the feed preferences and feeding habits of the dairy farmers in Selim District of Kars Province. Face-to-face interviews with 350 farmers in the district were used to collect data. The findings of the study showed that 90% of the farmers were engaged in plant production. In these enterprises, vetch (29.1%) and oats (12.9%) are mostly produced from forage crops and barley (30.6%) from grain feed. Production of corn for silage is quite low (3.4%). Among the roughage sources used in the enterprises, straw (96.9%) ranks first, followed by vetch (62.9%). Alfalfa production (8.9%) and utilization (15.4%) are low. Calf starter II is mainly used as a concentrated feed and straw is used as roughage in calves. It is seen that it is necessary to increase the production of fodder crops in the district, especially alfalfa and corn for silage production. In order to increase productivity in enterprises, it is necessary to use quality feeds as well as improving other factors. For this purpose, adoption of technical feeding and feeding practices, especially fodder crops production, by the relevant institutions in terms of education, promotion and awareness-raising through joint efforts and efforts will ensure success.
