Biomass of Sunflower Stalks - Potencial Raw Material for Production of Fuel

Sunflower stalks can be used in different ways, and one of the most significant potential applications is their use in fuel production. This is especially important today when the quantities of fossil fuels are limited and their consumption is significantly increased, and when their prices record a constant increase, due to the increase in human activity that causes an increase in fuel consumption, to such an extent that the demand exceeds the production and supply on the market. Therefore, in recent decades, the possibilities of production and application of biofuels from biomass, which also includes the biomass of agricultural and food products, have been increasingly analyzed. The biomass of agricultural and food products also includes sunflower stalks that remain after the sunflower harvest. Multiple benefits are achieved by valorizing sunflower stalks for fuel production. The use of sunflower stalks for fuel production contributes to sustainable waste management while achieving economic savings, that is, it contributes to sustainable "green" production and processing of sunflowers, which are realized according to the principles of the circular economy. Therefore, using scientific methods, research into the possibility of using biomass of sunflowers stalk as fuel, was carried out and the results of the conducted research are presented in this original scientific paper.
