英语. Endophytic fungi of the genus Epichloë form symbiotic relationships with grasses and their coexistence may be both positive for plants and negative for farm animals. Alkaloids produced by endophytes, when present in high concentrations, can be toxic to animals. At the same time, the presence of an endophyte can enhance the grass's resistance to biotic and abiotic stressors, such as drought, herbivory by pests, and pathogen attacks. This article presents and discusses the results of previous research on the associations of Epichloë endophytes with grasses in the context of their role in ecosystems and their impact on host plants and animals.
