A total of 90 trees were sampled.Insect pest specimens were collected andgirdled trees counted in each plot. Theinsect pest specimens were identified usingreference resources at the Department ofEcosystems and Conservation, SUA. Themean number of girdled stems wascomputed. Results showed that the girdlinginsect pest was Paranaleptes reticulata. The pest was girdling Eucalyptuscamaldulensis and E. terecticornis. It wasfound girdling up to 150 stems/ha ofEucalyptus stems. Removal and burning ofgirdled branches material especially dryones keeps in check the population densityof P. reticulata below economic injurylevel. The pest is a potential risk toEucalyptus plantations and woodlots inTanzania. Therefore, there is a need ofimmediate interventions to control P.reticulata.
