Distribution and inheritance of «A» and «B» types of seed coat in populations of B. rapa originated from Europe, Central Asia, China and Japan was studied. «A» type seeds were found in Central Asian and Japanese populations represented by toria, Asian turnip and plants of «B». rapa ssp. nipposinica (L.H.Bailey) Hanelt. In intraspecific crosses, «A» type of seed coat was controlled by two complementary dominant genes.

The analysis of some methods of pre6treatment of tomato seeds is given. The results of influence of laser irradiation on seeds germination and vigor are described. The positive effect of pre6sowing treatment on tomato yield at cultivation in the open ground in condition of the Low Amur was noticed.

The results of the study of vegetable pea collection of domestic and foreign breeding are shown. The biological characteristics and seed productivity of 23 varieties of vegetable pea in conditionof the southwest of Central Russia were studied. The varieties were selected based on the time of ripening. The cv. «Premium» is very early,ripening variety which showed the industrial ripeness at39 days and biological ripeness at 45 days. The cv. «Maksdon» has a higher seed productivity (2,54 t per ha).

On an experimental basis of the Scientific Center of vegetable, melon and industrial crops (Republic of Armenia) 20 accessions of the world germplasm of Capsicum annuum L. (sweet pepper, chili) provided by the World Vegetable Center (AVRDC) have been studied. The accessions resistant to such diseases as verticillium wilt (Verticillium albo-atrum Reincke), bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum (= Pseudomonas solanacearum), tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), blossom end rot of fruit, and tip-burn have been selected. These genotypes of chili and sweet pepper are the promising initial material in breeding for resistance to common diseases. In collaboration with other breeders, five varieties of peppers were developed and released: sweet pepper cultivars Natalie, Emily, Miles, and chili cultivars Zita and Gita.

The results of joint work of All-Russian public organization «The Academy of non traditional and rare plants» and the SSI All-Russian research institute of vegetable breeding and seed production of RAAS are presented.
