This paper deals with the distribution of Salmonella (S) infection on 4 herds in Kyungju and Taegu during the period from May to October 1986. Isolated Salmonella were examined for serotypes, antimicrobial drug resistance and detection of R plasmid. From 4 herds, 67 Salmonella were isolated from 51 samples (1.1%), and their serovar strains were S. typhimurium 6, S. derby 5, S. infantis 4, S. bareilly 4, S. dublin 3, S. anatum 2, S. montevideo 2 and untypable 41. In 4 herds, the incidence of drug resistance was 57.7-100% and transfer frequency of conjugative R plasmid was 96.1-100%.

1988
Yeh, S.G. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Chung, K.Y. | Cho, H.T. (Kyongnam Animal Health Latoratory (Korea R.))
The prevalence of yeasts in mammary glands of dairy cows and teat cups of milking machines was studied in Chinju area. The rate of subclinical yeast infection in 330 quarters was 3.6 %. Of 12 isolates from the milk, 4 Candida pseudotropicalis, 3 C. tropicalis, 2 C. krusei, 2 C. albicans and 1 Rhodotorula spp were identified. The 91.7 % of the isolates belonged to the genus Candida and C. pseudotropicalis was the predominant species. From 20.5 % of 200 teat cups tested, 51 strains of yeasts were isolated. These were 13 C. pseudotropicalis, 9 C. guilliermondii, 7 C. tropicalis, 5 C. krusei, 5 C. parapsilosis, 3 C. albicans, 2 Torulopsis glabrata, 2 Geotrichum candidum and 5 unidentified yeasts. C. pseudotropicalis was most frequently encountered

1988
Chung, J.S. | Cho, Y.J. (Kyungbook Animal Health Laboratory, Kyungbook (Korea R.))
Serological study and isolation of Brucellae from dairy cattle were carried out in Kyungbook area of Korea during the period from 1984 to 1985. Biotyping of the isolates was done. Of the 11168 cattle in 2479 herds examined, 27 cattle (0.24%) in the 17 herds (o.69%) were serologically positive for brucellosis. Brucella abortus was recovered from 20 (74.1%) of the 27 infected cattle, and all the strains of the isolates belonged to biotype 1. Of the tissues cultured for brucellae, the supramammary lymph nodes had the highest rate (55.6%) of recovery of brucella organisms

Observations were made on the blood picture of 50 multiparous and 98 infertile cows. Mean values of RBC, Hb, PVC, MCV, MCH, MCHC and platelets for normal multiparous cows were 6.87+-0.84X10** (6)/mm** (3), 10.3+-1.3g/100ml, 31.4+-3.7ml/100ml, 46.1+-6.9u** (3), 15.3+-2.6pg, 34+-2.7%, and 372.7+-304.7X10** (3)/mm** (3) respectively. Mean values of RBC, Hb, PVC, MCV, MCH, MCHC and platelets for infertile cows were 7.00+-0.98X10** (6)/mm** (3), 10.6+-1.2g/100ml, 32.1+-3.6ml/100ml, 45.8+-6.7u** (3), 15.3+-1.8pg, 33.9+-3.3%, and 382.7+-157.5X10** (3)/mm** (3), respectively. Mean values of WBC count for normal multiparous and infertile cows were 7.92+-1.72 and 9.04+-2.87X10** (3)/mm** (3) respectively. In the differential leukocytes count, mean values of neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils for normal multiparous cows were 29.7+-7.9%, 56.8+-7.6%, 2.9+-1.9%, 9.9+-5.3% and 0.3+-0.7%, respectively, and mean values of neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils for infertile cows were 31.9+-7.8%, 57.5+-7.9%, 2.6+-1.9%, 7.5+-4.8%, and 0.4+-0.2%, respectively
