The global swine industry faces significant challenges related to improving the survival and health of newborn piglets. Attention has come to β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB), a metabolite of leucine, for its potential in prenatal nutritional programming in sows, which can improve piglet body weight and support the development of the skeletal and digestive systems. The effects of prenatal HMB supplementation were investigated on the chemical coding of the enteric nervous system (ENS) in the small intestine of neonatal piglets.

Pour-on eprinomectin (EPN) is the only anthelmintic currently available that is approved for use in lactating goats with a zero-day milk withdrawal period. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of the pour-on form of EPN with the efficacy of the injectable version of ivermectin (IVM) on goat farms in Slovakia.

Oestrosis is a type of nasal myiasis that is caused by larvae of flies from the Oestrus genus and is a disease of economic significance in small ruminants. The research aimed to investigate the prevalence of oestrosis and detect differences in the COX1 gene among haplotypes found in Sulaymaniyah, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Canine mammary gland cancer (CMGC) is the most common neoplastic condition in bitches and is often fatal. There are limited treatment options for CMGC. Primary cell cultures from mammary tumours are promising preclinical in vitro models in which to study personalised treatment approaches. This preliminary study aimed to establish primary cell cultures from two canine mammary gland neoplasms: a common solid adenocarcinoma and a rare carcinosarcoma.

Enzootic nasal adenocarcinoma (ENA) is a nasal cancer that occurs in goats and sheep infected by enzootic nasal tumour virus. Pathologic examinations are useful for distinguishing tumours from inflammatory hyperplasia. The aim of this study was to describe the pathological characteristics of ENA.

Sulphonamides are some of the most widely used antimicrobial drugs in the treatment of bacterial diseases in pigs. The study was conducted to compare the total exposure of tissue to a group of active substances in a single formulation and evaluate the impact of the volume of distribution, lipophilicity and tissue half-life of sulfadimethoxine, sulphathiazole, sulphamethazine and sulphacetamide in two different veterinary drug formulations – Polisulfalent, which was preparation A, and Polisulfamid, which was preparation B.

Citrobacter freundii strains, like other representatives of the same genus, are often described as aetiological factors of diseases in humans and animals, including farmed and ornamental fish. The aim of the study was the isolation and identification of C. freundii from ornamental fish in Poland and investigation of the virulence factors and antibiotic resistance among the isolates.

The hypothalamic neuropeptides kisspeptin-10 (KiSS-10), neurokinin B (NKB), and dynorphin A (Dyn A) play roles in the endocrine regulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian (HPO) axis in puberty. Livestock’s timely attainment of sexual maturity increases reproductive efficiency and raises profitability. The pituitary relationship between these neuropeptides and gonadotropins in puberty in ewes being undercharacterised. The aim of the study was to analyse their direct effect on gonadotropin secretion by pituitary cells isolated from pubescent ewes.

This field study was designed as a cohort (prospective) and involved 71 calves within the borders of Aydın Province. Each calf in the study was from one of three different farms (Farm A with 12 non-infectious diarrheic, 15 infectious diarrheic, Farm B with 13 non-infectious diarrheic, 19 infectious diarrheic, and Farm C as the healthy control group n=12). Serum samples were separated into Eppendorf tubes after centrifugation and stored in a -80 °C freezer until analysis. The competitive enzyme immunoassay technique was applied using the Bovine Diamine Oxidase ELISA test. Diamine Oxidase (ng/mL) measurements in infectious, non-infectious, and healthy calves were determined to be 6.52 ± 2.85, 7.16 ± 3.40, and 17.05 ± 2.63 (p< 0.001), respectively, in terms of mean ± standard error. The data obtained suggest that determining circulating diamine oxidase enzyme levels under field conditions can support diagnosis as a biological marker of intestinal permeability, and more prominently, diamine oxidase activity may decrease in both non-infectious and infectious diarrheic calves in relation to small intestinal mucosal damage. This could represent a step closer to the diagnosis of leaky gut in calves.
