The investigations of the microflora and some groups of microfauna in the protected ecosystem of Zasavica [Serbia, Yugoslavia]
1998
Ratajac, R. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia)) | Rajkovic, D. | Stojkovic, S. | Bobic, M.
The protected natural goods of the swamp Zasavica is situated in the north part of Macva (Serbia, Yugoslavia). It is parallel to the flow of the Sava river, which leads to the fact that it used to be the riverbed of the Sava and also of the Drina river. It is interesting for its variety of the plant and animal species. The investigations have been done during autumn period 1997, when the investigated groups were the most heterogeneous. It included algae, Rotatoria,Cladocera, Copepoda and Hydracarina. Among algae, Bacillariophyta were dominant. Among all the investigated groups Rotatoria were the most heterogenous, with great number of the species that are rarely present. Also, some Cladocera species were rare. The estimation of the water quality is given according to the bioindicator species.

Petrovic, O. | Radnovic, D. | Gajin, S. | Matavulj, M. | Trivunovic, V. (Prirodno-matematicki fakultet, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia). Institut za biologiju)
On the basis of the enzymatic (phosphatase) activity and microbiological analysis as well, the influence of the oil refinery "Vital" - Vrbas (Serbia, Yugoslavia) wastewater to the recipient DTD (Danube-Tisza-Danube) canal water from the microbiological point of view was determined. In addition the efficiency of the factory's waste water purification plant was estimated. The obtained results of the complex microbiological-enzymological analyses indicated a good water quality at the point where the refinery's water supplies plant is situated (site 1). Very low water quality was determined downstream (site 4) and upstream (site 2) from the inflow of the refinery's wastewater's inflow. The later results might indicated the influence of an unknown pollutant in the region. However, the obtained O/H index value suggests that the self-purification ability of the canal waters is still preserved.

Processes of transformation of organic matter are slowed down so that cellulose which originates from cell walls of Sphagnum is retained long in unchanged form. The highest valises of cellulolytic bacteria (0.33-126.67 bact/ml) were recorded in October. In most cases slightly active species were found, Cellvibrio fulvus was dominant. The participation of fungi in cellulolytic community was significant 23-31.5.

Status and water quality of watershed area of Timok river [Serbia, Yugoslavia]
1997
Simic, V. | Ostojic, A. | Simic, S. (Prirodno-matematicki fakultet, Kragujevac (Yugoslavia). Institut za biologiju)
The river Timok with its watershed area is one of very imperilled running water on the territory of Serbia (Yugoslavia). By several years investigations of colonies bottoms (phytobenthos, microzoobenthos and macrozoobenthos) and plankton we have found the following: great diversity and specific phytobenthos and bottom fauna (frequency of certain taxa is considerably larger in relation to the other areas, and new taxa have been recorded). Stated specific structure of phytobenthos and bottom fauna have considerably reflected to right estimation of water quality of tested area.

Dulic, S. | Mrkic, B. (Zavod za zastitu zdravlja, Subotica (Yugoslavia))
The analysis of the phytoplakton and phytoperiphyton communities in the Palic lake (Serbia, Yugoslavia), has been performed with aim the water quality evalution. The determining and following proportional presence of phytoplankton were in the fourth sector of lake during 1998, 1999, and 2000. During the period of investigation, the phytoplankton community was characterized by forms of Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Euglenophyta and Bacillariophyta. During the investigation it was perceived the change in proportional participation in the presence of the four alga group mentioned above. The most representative percent was the Chlorophyta group, with values from 44.4%, to 54.7%. The other phytoplakton group has less values of percentage in the values.

The investigations of the macrozoobenthos of the Crvena Reka river (Serbia, Yugoslavia), left tributary to the Nisava river, were performed during July in 1999. Samples were collected from 15 localities, from the spring of the Crvena Reka river (originating from Toponicka and Vetska rivers) to the lower course, the aim being to investigate the diversity of macrozoobenthos of these running waters which had not been investigated. The community of macroinvertebrates of the Crvena Reka river and the streams, which make it, consists of 54 determined taxa (at species and genus level) from 16 animal groups. Larvae of Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera have the greatest diversity, each having ten determined taxa. The middle course of the Topnicka river (locality T4) is characterized by the greatest diversity (25 taxa), while the springs (due to constant ecological parameters) have poor diversity with two and one determined taxa in locality V1 and V2, respectively. The water quality of the investigated river and streams, which make it, on the basis of the results of saprobiological analysis, is of beta-mezosaprobic quality, i.e. second class of quality in most localities.

Paunovic, M. (Institut za bioloska istrazivanja "Sinisa Stankovic", Beograd (Yugoslavia)) | Tanaskovic, M. | Kalafatic, V. | Jakovcev, D. | Martinovic-Vitanovic, V.
During one-year examination of the Vlasina river and its main tributaries, the Luznica and Gradska rivers, Serbia (Yugoslavia), in May 1996, the samples were taken for biological and chemical analysis of the watercourse in the spring aspect. Sampling was performed on the five localities of the Vlasina river, and two tribute localities near the mouth thus including all critical points where the changes of physico-chemical water parameters and qualitative/quantitative biocenoses compositions due to the increasing anthropogenic influence could occur. Data on phytoplankton, zooplankton, periphyton and benthos were analysed together with the physico-chemical water parameters in order to determine communities composition and structure and bioindicator species. Based on these results the status of aquatic environment i.e. water quality, was evaluated.
