The Djerdap 1 Hydropower Plant (Djerdap 1 HPP) was joint projects of Yugoslavia and Romania, based upon the principles of equal benefits. The primary functions of the Djerdap 1 HPP are to effectively utilize the available hydropower potential of the Danube and to provide a full navigational capability under any hydrologic conditions. The utilization of the hydropower potential was conditional upon the provision of a Riparian Land Protection System for the Djerdap 1 reservoir, and the timely prevention of any adverse impacts due to the alternation of the natural regime as a result of backwater. ongoing enhancement of the Riparian Land Protection System and study of the various impacts have enabled a continual backwater increase and a resulting increase in the output of high quality power, with no significant risk of adverse impacts.

The paper presents the results of laboratory research and application of continuous electro-coagulation and electro-flotation (ECEF) to remove natural organic matter (NOM) from groundwater in the treatment of drinking water. The highest NOM removal efficiency for current density of 5.78 mA/ cm square according to UV254 absorbance and dissolved organic matter (DOC) was 77% and 71% respectively. The specific energy and aluminum electrode consumption was 2.01 kWh/cubic m, 80 g Al/cubic m, respectively.

This study investigates the effect of low molecular weight carboxylic acid on degradation of textile dye C.I. Reactive Orange 16 (RO16), in function of initial pH, using Ultra Violet light and H2O2. Experiments were performed in photoreactor with UVC lamps in stationary conditions. Results shows that carboxylic acids have inhibitory effect on degradation process of dye. With increasing concentration of dye inhibitory effect grows. Inhibitory effect of acid are higher on pH values of solution higher than pKa acids, because than in solution acids appear almost entirely in the form of anion. The highest inhibitory effect shows formates, smaller propanoates, and the smallest acetates. UV/H2O2 process is very effective for removal of organic pollutants, but the efficiency of this process was significantly lower in the presence of lower carboxylic acids.

Mediterranean mussels, Mytilus galloprovincialis, are recognized bioindicators used in investigation of genotoxic pollution in the areas under the impact of anthropogenic activities. In July and August 2011 specimens of M. galloprovincialis were collected from 5 sites of Boka Kotorska Bay, Montenegro. Level of DNA damage was measured in gills, haemolymph and digestive gland with alkaline comet assay. Significant increase in DNA damage was detected in tissues of mussels collected from polluted sites comparing with mussels collected from the clean reference site Dobrota. The highest response to pollution was found in gills and digestive gland cells.

Based on all available data a review of introduced non-indigenous species is reported for the area of Montenegrian coastal sea (South-East Adriatic Sea). All together 11 species were recorded, three algae and eight animals. Monitoring of invasive species has been done partially only for Caulerpa racemose var. cylindracea, while for other species distribution and impact on autochthonous environment is unknown.

During the continuous analysis of zooplankton and hydrographic quality of sea in Boka Kotorska bay in season series during 2007/08, in addition to the other zooplanktons groups, fauna was analyzed, the appearance and abundance of Siphonophorae. Special attention was applied to biodiversity, dynamic abundance and distribution of group. In this paper we are exposing the data for abundance and distribution of group of Siphonophorae from Boka Kotorska Bay. We have found six species of which only the species Muggiaea cochi (W and l l) can be located throughout the year at all stations and in shallow stations only in summer. The other species Lensia conoidea (Keferstein et Ehlers), Lensia multicristata (Moser), Lensia subtilis (Chun), Lensia fowleri (Bigelow), Abylopsis tetragona (Otto) occur rarely in small numbers or in individual specimens.

This paper presents the results of chemical analyzes of water and sediment of the River Tisza, in the section from the Hungarian border to the mouth of the Danube. According to local legislation, water quality in the Tisza is acceptable, i.e. does not exceed the maximum allowable values for Class II watercourses for most parameters at almost all sampling locations. by using the Dutch methodology, it was concluded that the sediments of the Tisza at all profiles is categorized as polluted due to the high mercury and/or nickel contents, except for the profile downstream of Senta, which is partially contaminated. All the sediments are partially polluted in terms of copper content, and the sediment in the profile downstream of the dams is also partially polluted with zinc. The results of this analysis can be used to obtain a preliminary picture of the vulnerability of the Tisza River over its course in Serbia to the large number of industrial pollutants that are present in wastewaters discharged into the river or in the lateral canals that empty into the Tisza.

The paper presents a comparison of measurements of selected organic pollutants in various water matrices, in order to assess the impact of the matrix on the accuracy of pollutant analysis. Selected compounds were from class of phenols (p-nitrophenol, 3,5-dichlorophenol)and organochlorine pesticides (isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), heptachlor, aldrine, heptahloroepoxide, 4,4'-DDE, dieldrine, endrine, 4,4'-DDD, endrin aldehyde, 4,4'-DDT, endosulfan sulfate). Apart from distilled water and synthetic aqueous matrix (salt addition in distilled water according to DIN EN 12902 standard), natural matrix was also used in the analysis – surface water (River Danube in Novi Sad – DOC (dissolved organic carbon) 2-6 mg/l, suspended matter content 30 mg/l).

In this paper aquatic macroinvertebrate community of the Peštan River was presented, including the characterisation of the species with regard to saprobic conditions and preference to the mineral substrate type. Sampling was carried out during 2011 at man stream and tributaries. A total of 52 taxa have been identified. According to the ecological classification of the taxa with regard to saprobic conditions for the main stream, the most species belong to the alpha-mesosaprobic group while majority of the species from the tributaries were characterised as beta-mesosaprobic species. The most of registered species preffered substrate type characteristic for lowland river. Results of saprobiological analysis indicate poorer status of the main stream in regard to tributaries.
