The design guideline for therapeutic sensory gardens
2013
Balode, L., Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia)
The research topic is sensory, healing, rehabilitation and horticultural gardens, and the related discourses. The first part of the paper describes the historic development of the rehabilitation and health gardens in Latvia. Then he research paper takes a look at the main aspects which dominate in the rehabilitation and sensory visual and functional garden sites in the world. The quest to create contemporary landscape sites for health reasons is still one of the main subjects to explore and find definitions for. The methodology used in this paper is descriptive, from the perspective of historical relaxation gardens and health sites. The aim of this research is to define the main development lines of health sites in Latvia, trying to answer such questions as: How we can start developing sensory gardens and what is needed for their development in the future? To achieve the goal, it is necessary to absorb the world experience and exchange best practices, find innovative solutions, and adapt advanced rehabilitation center area landscapes to individual needs. When creating the healing gardens, the aesthetic and functional criteria have to be applied. Depending on the availability of the natural environment, health and satisfaction will be enhanced.

Skangals, U., Latvia Univ. of Life Sciences and Technologies, Jelgava (Latvia) | Ilgazs, A., Latvia Univ. of Life Sciences and Technologies, Jelgava (Latvia)
The aim of this pilot study was to assess whether a single mesenchymal stem cell intra-articular injection in the osteoarthritic joint gives a therapeutic effect. This trial study was made in order to better manage and structure further study on more dogs. Single injections of 3 million mesenchymal stem cell intra-articular injections were made bilaterally in the osteoarthritic elbow joints. The dog was examined before and after monthly stem cell therapy using stance analyser scales to determine the static weight of each limb. Weight balance between forelegs improved, but not significantly (p is greater than 0.05). A radiographic examination was made for both elbow joints before stem cell therapy and the second and fifth month thereafter. Calculations of sub-trochlear sclerosis in percentage were made using mediolateral projections. Sub-trochlear sclerosis in percentage significantly decreased (p is less than 0.05) after stem cell therapy in both legs.

Slyamova, A., Kazakh National Agrarian Univ., Almaty (Kazakhstan) | Sarsembayeva, N., Kazakh National Agrarian Univ., Almaty (Kazakhstan) | Valdovska, A., Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia) | Micinski, J., University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland) | Ussenbayev, A., Kazakh National Agrarian Univ., Almaty (Kazakhstan) | Paritova, A., Kazakh National Agrarian Univ., Almaty (Kazakhstan) | Mankibayev, A., Kazakh National Agrarian Univ., Almaty (Kazakhstan)
This study was designed with the aim to determine the impact of residual antibiotics on haematological and biochemical constituents of broiler chickens’ blood. For this, one-day-old chickens were randomly divided into four equal groups with 10 individuals in each group (n = 40). All groups of chickens fed with commercial basal diet; the first group considered as control, fed only with basal ration; the feed of the second, third and fourth groups of chicken were supplemented with amoxystin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol, respectively. Antibiotics were given daily, individually, in sub-therapeutic concentrations: amoxystin at the dosage 10 mg kgE-1, tetracycline and chloramphenicol – 20 mg kgE-1 of the chicken’s weight for 41 days. The blood parameters were measured at the end of experiment on the 42nd day. In comparison with the control group, decreasing of leukocytes was observed in the 2nd and 4th groups, and increasing in the 3rd group of broilers. The concentration of erythrocytes and hemoglobin was reduced in the 2nd group and hematocrit was higher in the 3rd and 4th groups (p is less than or equal 0.01). The total protein was decreased by 22% in the 2nd group, 16% – in the 3rd and 4th groups as compared to the control group (p is less than or equal 0.01) in blood serum. The concentration of glucose was decreased by 45.8, 46.5 and 51.5% in the second, third and fourth groups of treated birds, respectively, compared to those of birds in the control group (p is less than or equal 0.01). Based on the results it could be concluded that antibiotics influence the dynamics of haematopoiesis and biochemical indices of broilers.

2016
Plaksina, J., Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia) | Ilgazs, A., Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia)
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous concentrated cocktail of growth factors and inflammatory mediators, and has been considered to be potentially effective for cartilage repair. Animal clinical studies suggest that PRP is a promising treatment for cartilage injuries and relieving symptoms due to its three biological properties: an anabolic effect, enhancement of cartilage regeneration and inhibition of inflammation. The aim of this article is to analyse the available evidence on the clinical application of this biological approach to animals for the injective treatment of cartilage lesions and joint degeneration, and also to support the rationale for the use of platelet concentrates and to give indications on what to expect from intra-articular injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in animals. This article is a summary of analytical research papers about the use of platelet-rich plasma as a treatment for the osteoarthritis. The intra-articular injections do not just target cartilage; instead, platelet-rich plasma might influence the entire joint environment, leading to clinical improvement. Many biological variables might influence the clinical outcome and have to be studied to optimize PRP injective treatment of cartilage degeneration and osteoarthritis.

This article presents the results of a comparative evaluation of preventive treatment of udder with probiotic agents: ‘Dipal’ (manufacturer DeLaval - Sweden), ‘Zorka’ (manufacturer «NPP Farmaks» - Russia). We have received data on the effects of probiotic preparation on quality of milk and number of somatic cells in milk. Research has been conducted in two dairy farms of Almaty region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Lactobacillus acidophilus 05ch - isolated from shubat (South Kazakhstan region, Turkestan). Lactococcus lactis 010k - isolated from three-day kumys (Zhambyl region, Merke). These probiotics are used as a means for sanitary treatment of the udder of cows. Thus, the procedure of determining the antagonistic activity revealed their high activity against both gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, notably Staphylococcus aureus (10-13 mm), Escherichia coli (12 mm), Proteus vulgaris (10-14 mm), Salmonella abortus ovis (11-13 mm). Significant changes in the milk indices can be found in the experimental group: 9.1% rise of lactose, and 7.2% reduction of protein. The level of protein increased by 4.1% , whereas the amount of lactose, on the contrary, went down 1.6%, which may be indicative of the increase in the content of serum protein when the udder is inflamed. The examination of the milk obtained from the cows of the control and experimental groups showed a nearly double reduction in the number of somatic cells from 488.00 down to 178.000 thousand, which was caused by the daily treatment of cows by probiotic cultures during 2 weeks.

2001
Lehtla, A. | Reidla, K. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine)
In majority of cases, a positive effect can be observed upon application of Laser Agnis-L01 in treatment regimen of bone fractures. Positive effect of the laser was observed in 66.7%, no change in 22.2% and negative effect in 11.1% of the rabbits in experiment. To accelerate healing of bone fractures, we recommended the following parameters in treatment regimen with Agnis L01: impulse power 1.5 W, impulse frequency 250 Hz, modulation frequency 50 Hz and duration of treatment episode 240 seconds, 5 squares of treatment, 1 dosage per day, 10 treatment episodes. The treatment should start from day 4 after occurrence of fracture. Efficacy of laser treatment depends on individual properties of animal. Treatment of bone fractures is complex, laser treatment could be an element of the treatment regimen.

2001
Keidane, D. (Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Preclinical Inst.)
The aim of research was to analyse the spread of goats eimeriosis in Latvia, determine the structure of eimeria species as well as the efficiency of treatment of goats eimeriosis. Coprological examination of goats, carried out with Fileborn method, showed that the average level of eimeriosis influence on goats was about 25.2% and 3 dominant species of emeria such as E.arloingi, E.ninakohlyakimovae and E.alijevi. The highest level of influence was discovered to animals under 1 year of age, as with E.ninakohlyakimovae (62.5%) as the dominant specie, to animal above 1 year of age - E.arloingi (57.3%-66.7%), respectively. As the result, such preparations as sulfadimetoxine in dosage 75 mg kg*[-1) amprolsol 50 mg kg*[-1) showed high level (about 91%) of efficiency of emeriosis treatment.
