The Effects of Vermicompost on Yield and Some Growth Parameters of Lettuce

Due to its importance for organic agriculture, one of the most important agricultural production systems, various sources have been proposed to increase soil organic matter content. Vermicompost is one of those sources known as the resistant last form of farmyard manure which is degraded by earthworms. Soil organic matter or humus and their compounds are nutrient sources that increase physical, chemical and biological quality of soil. Humus and humus compounds improve soil physical, chemical and biological quality parameters increasing rhizosphere aeration and water holding capacity, rehabilitating soil structure, providing plant nutrients and constituting natural media for microorganisms with their regulative effects on soil reactions. In this study, the effects of vermicompost on yield and some growth parameters of lettuce were investigated. For this purpose, a random block designed experiment with 5 different applications was conducted in 3 replicates. The applications were control, vermicompost applications of 100 kg, 200 kg and 300 kg per decare and conventional fertilization. According to the results obtained, yield and growth parameters were improved by vermicompost application when compared to control and conventional fertilization. As a result of this study, it was concluded that 300 kg vermicompost/da is a promising application in lettuce production for optimal yield and soil improvement.

Bu çalışmada; farklı su sıcaklıkları uygulanmış pullu sazan (Cyprinus carpio)’da malaondialdehit (MDA) ve glutatyon (GSH) düzeyi ile glutatyon-S-transferaz (GST) enzim aktivitesine çörek otu yağının etkisi araştırılmıştır. 20, 24 ve 28°C’ de tutulan balıklara çörek otu yağı (10 mg/kg yem) uygulanmıştır. Kontrol grubu olarak 24°C’de tutulan balıklar seçilmiştir. Uygulama 10 gün devam etmiş ve bu sürenin sonunda balıklardan karaciğer ve böbrek örnekleri alınmıştır. Çalışma sonucuna göre 20°C ve 28°C’deki balıkların MDA düzeyinin önemli oranda arttığı, GSH düzeyi ile GST aktivitesinin düştüğü tespit edilmiştir. Bu gruplarda çörek otu yağı uygulamasıyla MDA düzeyinin istatistiksel olarak önemli düzeyde düştüğü, GSH düzeyi ile GST aktivitesinin önemli oranda yükseldiği belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, balıklarda sıcaklık farklılıklarından kaynaklanan strese karşı çörek otu yağı antioksidan olarak kullanılabilir.

In this study, it was aimed to determine the approaches of primary school students’ parents participating in the school milk programme in the Isparta province. The data obtained by the questionnaire method were used from 359 students’ parents who were included in the school milk programme. The families were divided into four groups according to the household income. It was determined that the families consumed more pasteurized milk. The average age of the interviewed individuals was 37.14 years. About 36.21% of the parents were high school graduates. 53.48% of them spend money on milk less than 50 TL. Household size was 4.05 persons. 21.84% of them consume milk hot. The attitude of the parents to the school milk programme was generally positive (82.17%). The school milk programme was believed to be a habit of consuming milk. It was found that 33.33% of the surveyed parents were negative about the school milk programme because they did not trust the content of the milk distributed. In the study, 49.30% of the parents thought that the school milk programme increased the milk consumption habits of the children and 67.97% thought that there was not more supply of milk distributed. For the purpose of implementing the school milk programme, 48.75% of the families had a judge to love the milk and make milk drinking habit. The majority of the families (62.40%) were preferred daily milk in the products distributed and 44% believed that drinking milk was subjected to nutritional analysis. It is suggested that the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Health should inform families about the benefits of milk and school milk programme.

Increase in online available bioinformatics tools for protein research creates an important opportunity for scientists to reveal characteristics of the protein of interest by only starting from the predicted or known amino acid sequence without fully depending on experimental approaches. There are many sophisticated tools used for diverse purposes; however, there are not enough reviews covering the tips and tricks in selecting and using the correct tools as the literature mainly state the promotion of the new ones. In this review, with the aim of providing young scientists with no specific experience on protein work a reliable starting point for in silico analysis of the protein of interest, we summarized tools for annotation, identification of motifs and domains, determination isoelectric point, molecular weight, subcellular localization, and post-translational modifications by focusing on the important points to be considered while selecting from online available tools.

In this study, the quince market was examined in the world and Turkey. The primary data in the study were obtained by questionnaire method with 28 middleman in different marketing levels in Sakarya, Antalya, Bursa, Bilecik and Denizli where quince production is concentrated. Secondary data were obtained from the FAO and TURKSTAT. The world quince production, which is 324465 tons compared to 1981-1985 which is the beginning of the period, increased by 94.3% to 630325 tons in 2013. Major countries in world quince production are Turkey, China, Uzbekistan, Morocco and Iran. Quince production in Turkey increased by 1.60 times compared to the average of 1981-1985. In this increase in the quince production in Turkey, the increase in the per-tree yield has been considerably effective (an increase of 40%). 5.3% of quince fruit produced in the world is exported. World quince exports amount increased 8.32 times and the value increased 38.42 times. The highest share in quince export values is in the Netherlands (33.6%). The Netherlands is followed by Turkey, Austria and Iran respectively. The share of Turkey in the world export value is 31.1%. Russia ranks first in the world quince import with 23.3% share. Austria and Germany are followed by Russia.9.4% of the quince production in Turkey is exported. The major quince producers are Sakarya, Bursa, Antalya, Bilecik and Denizli. The 15 of the interviewed intermediaries, reported that the most important problem that there is no quince at the desired time, quantity, quality and price (54).

Sürdürülebilir tarımın karşı karşıya olduğu en önemli sorunlardan biri kaliteli gübre teminin ve gübrelemenin uygulamasında karşılaşılan sorundur. Son yıllarda bir yandan doğal yöntemlerle elde edilen gübrenin miktarı artırılmaya çalışılırken; diğer yandan farklı tip gübre (katı doğal, sıvı doğal, biyo-doğal vb..) çeşitlerinin elde edilmesine yönelik çalışmaların artarak devam ettiği görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, fermente olmuş doğal hayvan gübresi ile beslenen solucanlardan (Eisenia fetida) elde edilen sıvı gübredeki (vermiwash) bazı besin elementleri ve metallerin zamana (30 gün, 31-6 gün) bağlı değişimlerinin belirlenmesidir. Bu amaçla, doğal meralarda otlayan ineklerden elde edilmiş ve en az 12 ay süreyle fermente olmuş hayvan gübresi ile Eisenia fetida solucanı beslenmiş ve besleme sırasında elde edilen sıvı solucan gübresindeki bazı makro ve mikro besin elementleri analiz edilmiştir. Sağım süresi arttıkça sıvı solucan gübresindeki N, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Hg, Sb değerleri istatistiksel olarak önemli seviyede azalırken; Co, As, Ag, Cd, Pb, Al, Se, Mo, Li ve Be değerleri istatistiksel olarak önemli seviyede artmıştır.

Bu yeni gelişmelerin bir sonucu olarak sadece koruma fonksiyonuna sahip olan pasif paketleme tekniklerinin yerini gıda ürünlerinin muhafazasının yanında daha birçok fonksiyona sahip aktif ve akıllı paketleme teknolojileri almaya başlamıştır. Yenilikçi paketleme çeşitlerinden biri olan aktif paketlemenin kullanımı gıdaların raf ömrünü önemli oranlarda artırmaktadır. Ekmeklerin paketlemesinde de aktif paketleme uygulamaları kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada ekmekte kullanılan aktif paketleme uygulamaları özetlenmiştir.

In this study, economic structure and problems of trout enterprise were analysed in Fethiye district. It was aimed to determine the input of enterprises engaged in aquaculture at the Fethiye district, calculation of the economic situation, investigation of the market situation and determine problems. In addition possible solutions were tried to be to problems. In the district, it was interviewed with 17 trout enterprises. Data were collected with interviewing face to face by questionnaires. These data was analysed by MS Excel and SPSS programmes. 52.9% of the enterprises were established in the foothill, 35.3% were in open field and 11.8% were established in between valleys. 58.8% of these enterprises were individual enterprises, %17.6 was simple partnership and 23.5% were commercial partnership. The most shares in the active capital were constituted working capital with a rate of 70.3% whereas the share of landlord’s capital was 29.7%. The share of own capital in passive capital was 93.9% and the usage of foreign capital was low (6.1%). The share of variable cost was 83.6% while fixed cost was 16.4% in the total production cost. The main problem of enterprises was the rise of feed costs. A feed cost was found to constitute 63.4% of total production costs. Producers should be given support in terms of technical knowledge and efforts to raise awareness of local people and consumers should be made.

There are various food-processing technologies with the aim of protecting foodstuffs from environmental factors and increasing their shelf life. One of these is encapsulation technology, which has recently been used with an increased interest. With the fluidized bed coating, which is one of the physical methods used for encapsulation, the solid core materials are fluidized via the air stream and a film layer is formed on the surface of the core material with the coating material. The applicability of the fluid bed coating technique, as well as particulate properties, is significantly influenced by process variables used in the system, environmental variables and thermodynamic factors. The release characteristics of capsules formed during the process can be changed by various mechanisms such as heating, dissolution, mechanical or chemical fracture etc. and controlled release can be achieved. The fluidized bed coating method not only has the advantage of controlled release but also provides a homogeneous powder product, reduction of fine particles, development of transport and storage facilities, protection of reactive components, and prevention unwanted taste and odour. In this study, researches on fluid bed coating mechanism, fluid bed coating systems and applications of fluid bed systems in the food industry have been reviewed.

Bu araştırmada, Simmental (SİM), Aberdeen Angus (ANG), Hereford (HER), Limousin (LİM) ve Charolais (CHA) ırkı sığırların besi performansı ve karkas özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Uruguay ve Fransa’dan 2015 yılında ithal edilen 10-12 aylık yaştaki 606 baş erkek sığır kullanılmıştır. Tüm hayvanlar yaklaşık 7-9 ay süren besi süresinde aynı rasyon ile sınırsız beslenmişlerdir.
