Zoohygienic investigations of microbiological and dust contamination of air were carried out in two types of cowsheds designed for fatstock on a state farm "S" in winter and summer 1977. The investigations were carried out in buildings of Opole and Bialystock types. The buildings differed in building material used for construction and the designs of the sewage systems. In the air the total number of bacteria was determined as well as the number of hemolyzing bacteria, Escherichia coli, the number of fungi and the degree of dustiness

Risk management in agricultural production
1983
Jolly, R.W.
Extract: This paper considers managerial response to risk from an operational perspective. I will describe briefly the farm management process and consider how the assessment and control of risk might be incorporated. My primary motive, however, is to use this framework as a means to identify economic research and extension problems that must be addressed if the managerial skills of agricultural decision makers are to be improved.

The crop is to perform two functions in order to carry out its biological cycle - a metabolic one and a biophysical one - consisting of a continual heat exchange between the crop and its surrounding environment. The crop temperature always rises whenever the crop receives a higher amount of heat than it can transfer to its surrounding environment. Catabolic processes are speeded up, consequently the crop yield decreases. That circumstance is a usual feature of tropical areas. On the other hand, the crop yield turns out to be very high whenever a fair balance between heat received and heat transferred is achieved. That circumstance is a usual feature of temperate areas. As a consequence, agrometeorological researchers aiming at investigating the crop yield as their primary target, are concerned to be closely acquainted with microclimatic conditions of the crop environment so that they can properly set them in the general climatic situation shown by the meteorological station.
