Two main objects have been in view. The first has been to determine the mode of inheritance of certain characteristics, principally awn and grain colour. The second object has been to shed some light on the question of grain quality and its relation to grain colour.

Fixed nitrogen is cheap enough and abundant enough to justify its use as an aid toward a more prosperous agriculture. Since, as has already been noted, there is practically no limit to the quantity of fixed nitrogen that may be produced for agricultural uses, we should very seriously consider national and international inquiries in the domain of soil and plant science as a first step toward building more rational crop production programs.

The collection contains correspondence between Carver and former Agricultural Research Service scientist, Paul R. Miller. There are three handwritten letters dated 1932-1933 from Carver and a reply from Miller regarding rust specimens. A signed portrait from Carver to Miller (1938) is included. Additionally, there are two letters dated 1943 from Rackham Holt (author of George Washington Carver: An American Biography) to Miller regarding Miller's text contribution to the book. Miller described Carver's standing in the scientific world.

This is the tenth annual agricultural outlook report prepared as an aid to farmers in making plans for the next season's operations. Facts that are not readily available to farmers on world-wide and nation-wide supply, demand, and prices have been assembled and interpreted to show as nearly as possible the probable trend of conditions until the time when the products of next season's operations will be marked. This report is prepared from the national viewpoint and its statements may have to be modified in view of unforeseen changes or peculiar local conditions.

Todo el que haya habitado en verano la región valenciana, conoce los asfixiantes días en que sopla el viento SO., vulgarmente denominado con el nombre de "poniente". Viento cálido y seco, en el verano, procedente del interior de la península, que contrasta ampliamente con las brisas marinas húmedas y menos cálidas, que son las predominantes en esa estación. Como datos demostrativos de la extrema sequedad y elevada temperatura que llegan a tener estos" ponientes" entresacamos las características de algunos, ocurridos en el verano de 1931, que fueron registrados en el Observatorio de la Estaciones de Fitopatología y Naranjera de Burjasot (Valencia).

Hace algún tiempo estudié las especies españolas del género Bornbus, en cuyo trabajo quería haber incluido las del género Psitlzyrus, pues por su aspecto y organización pueden ser fácilmente confundidas con aquéllas. Diversas circunstancias impidieron realizar a la vez el estudio de ambos géneros, aunque disponía de todo el material necesario para ello. Mientras tanto el Prof. V. B. Popov publicó en esta misma revista un importante trabajo sobre los Psithyrus paleárticos, en el que trata poco de los españoles, ya que el autor estudia con preferencia los de las colecciones rusas. Completar este trabajo, en relación con la fauna de nuestra patria, es el objeto del actual. Para ello el mayor número de ejemplares ha sido facilitado por el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid y por el Museo de Biología de Barcelona. Otros he visto también de los Sres. Dusmet, García Mercet y Cámara y algunos extranjeros de los Sres. Alfken y Krüger, habiéndome remitido el Dr. Popov algunas especies críticas para el más fácil estudio de las españolas. A todos ellos expreso mi agradecimiento, así como a D. Ignacio y D. Cándido Bolívar, que dieron toda clase de facilidades para la realización de este trabajo, y a D. Ascensio Codina (recientemente fallecido), que remitieron las colecciones de sus Museos respectivos.
