Freeze- dired schizont tissue culture antigen of T.annulate (theilerin) was prepared and its total nitrogen was deretmined at a level of mg/ml.292 calves, heifers, milking cows aleardy vaccinated against theileriosis or recoveredfrom acute theileriosis were chosen. they were divied into three groups which respectively received 0.1 ml of theilerin intradermally at normal concentration total nitrogen and also two other dilutions (1.10 and 1.100). pathological changes such as thickness, erythema, cells infiltration and lymphadenopathy on the inoculation site and also general condition of the animals were checked 48 and 72 hours post inoculation. 62.5% of cattle receiving theilerin at a levelof normal concentration shwed more then one mm increase in skin thickness at the site of inoculation, the mean value of which com to 3.48 mm. the rest of the animals showed askin thickness increase of 1mm which can be concidered negligible. the pathological examination of the inoculation site skin showed in filtration of lymphocytes. the results indicated that the test in positive and could be used as on accuracy test for checking the immunity in vaccinated animals provided that the cell-mediated immunity theileria annulata is defenitly protective.

1999
Rao, S.A. | Rana, N.H. (Sindh Agriculture Univ., Tandojam (Pakistan). Dept. of Plant Pathology)
Three different post harvest plant fungi were isolated from lesions on onion Allium cepa L. collected from the storage located at Hyderabad. From the isolation of pieces of rotted onion, it was found that Aspergillus sp. was predominant. It was followed by Fusarium sp. and Penicillium sp. Aspergillus sp. was isolated from 11% of the randomly selected rotten bulbs followed by species Fusarium and Penicillium (05% and 04%) respectively. Application of four fungicides showed that Benlate, Dithane M-45 and Tecto-60 were most effective against Aspergillus sp., Fusarium sp. and Penicillium sp. respectively.

1999
Mohamed, S.J. (Fathima College of Pharmacy, Tamil Nandu (India). Dept. of Biochemistry)
In the present study four anesthetics namely: 2-phenoxyethanol, quinaldine, MS-222, and benzocaine were selected to test the efficiency in anesthetisation of common carp Cyprinus carpio. The effective concentration which produced anesthesia within 3 minutes and allowed recovery within 5 minutes in common carp were (respectively): 600 cubic mm/cubic dm, 6 mg/cubic dm, 50 mg/cubic dm, and 50 mg/cubic dm

1999
Seka, M.A. | Hammes, F. | Kielemoes, J. | Verstraete, W. (University of Gent (Belgium). Faculty of Agricultural and Applied Biological Sciences. Lab. of Microbial Ecology and Technology)
Rapid and definite assessment of the effect that a specific biocide has on a specific case of filamentous bulking sludge is a much-needed tool in activated sludge wastewater treatment. The Live/Dead staining technique (LIVE/DEAD BacLight), enabling to distinguish between "living" and "non-living" micro-organisms, was examined as a fool for the assessment of biocide efficiency on filamentous bulking sludge. A good concord was obtained between staining results, the oxygen uptake rate (OUR) measurements and the performance of the sludge after 24-h incubation subsequently to biocide application. As a result, the staining technique appears to be a very relevant tool for a thorough assessment of biocide's efficacy on filamentous bulking sludge.
