Hui-Ting Lin; Fu-Kuei Chang; Hsin-Jen Tsai
This study aimed to examine the influence of changes in exercise status, nutritional status, and a number of comorbidities on functional ability in Taiwanese community-dwelling older adults. Data were obtained from the Taiwan Longitudinal Study of Aging. The results revealed that current exercise and consistent exercise were negatively associated with subsequent 4- and 8-year activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental ADL (IADL) decline (all p <: 0.05). The Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA) score was negatively associated with subsequent 8-year IADL decline (all p <: 0.05), while the number of diseases was positively associated with subsequent 4- and 8-year IADL decline (all p <: 0.05). Current exercise and consistent exercises are beneficial for adults aged &ge:65 years to maintain their functional ability in ADL and IADL and to prevent declines in functional ability. Consistency of exercise, MNA score, and the number of chronic diseases are good predictors of IADL decline.

This study aimed to test different chemical agents to obtain microbiologically safe industrial hemp seeds that could be used for further food processing (with the reduced total number of microorganisms, total number of moulds and yeasts, and total number of Enterobacteriaceae). In order to obtain seeds applicable for food consumption, optimal storage temperature conditions (room temperature, refrigerator, freezer), method of seed packaging (vacuum/without vacuum), and the application of various chemical treatments (ethanol, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium hypochlorite) were tested on the certified industrial hemp seeds, produced in two consecutive years. Optimal storage conditions differed for different microorganisms, and the most optimal storage was at room temperature, for seeds produced in 2018, in the treatment to reduce the total number of Enterobacteriaceae and the total number of microorganisms. When storing seeds from 2018 in order to reduce the number of yeasts and moulds, a slightly lower number was spotted when seeds were stored in a vacuum-sealed bag, at the refrigerator/freezer temperature. For hemp seeds produced in 2019, the most optimal storage conditions were at the refrigerator (for reduction of the total number of Enterobacteriaceae) and freezer temperature (for reduction of the total number of microorganisms). For the reduction of the total number of moulds and yeasts, optimal conditions were at room temperature. Ethanol (75%, v/v) was the most effective disinfectant among the tested chemicals regardless of the initial number of microorganisms, with log reduction of 3.2 (for the total number of Enterobacteriaceae), 2.9 log (for the total number of microorganisms), and total reduction of the total number of yeasts and moulds after 10 minutes, for the seeds harvested in 2019, which were far more contaminated than the seeds harvested in 2018. Considering the price of the disinfection method with ethanol, sodium hypochlorite may be a better solution for the reduction of the number of microbiota on the seeds.

2019
Nguyen, Van Tuyen | Smirnov, A.P. | Danilov, D.A. | Vu, Van Truong
Objective: To identify the impact of selective logging on the characteristics of reforestation in Central Vietnam. Research work carried out in 2017 in areas of selective logging of Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, at altitudes 200–300 above sea level. We studied 4 of the most economically valuable regenerated tree species from the 1st layer: Vatica tonkinensis, Madhuca pasquieri, Hopea pierrei, Erythrophleum fordii in the areas of felling 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012. The intensity of logging was about 25–30 % of the stock. The density of undergrowth on felling areas increased compared with the control, and this increase two years out of four statistically significant for Vatica tonkinensis and Hopea pierrei. The undergrowth of Vatica tonkinensis is different from other species by stable number at logging sites of different year. Hopea pierrei number of undergrowth increases with age of cuttings. The photophilous undergrowth of Erythrophleum fordii, in contrast, has a high density in the 5–7-year- old cuttings area. The density of Madhuca pasquieri is not significantly different from the control. The occurrence of undergrowth is also higher in cutting areas. The total share of four breeds in the total composition of undergrowth is 36–41 % and it doesn’t change much with the age of felling. On the control this fact is not observed. The share of undergrowth of Vatica tonkinensis and Hopea pierrei is increasing in logging areas compared to the control. The number of undergrowth of all four species decreases with increasing of height. As a rule, there are a litle bit more small ones at the cutting areas compared to the control irrespective of the species; the largest one has the opposite tendency. In general, in the areas of selective felling with age 5–12 years, the undergrowth of the most valuable tree species differs from the control in the greater density, occurrence and share in the total composition of the undergrowth.

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is one of the emerging industries of ocean energy and an important link in carbon neutrality. Turbine is a key component of ocean thermal energy conversion, which has an important impact on the performance and energy conversion efficiency of the system. This paper fully considers the application characteristics of ocean thermal energy conversion and the state conversion characteristics of ammonia working fluid. Taking the 100 kW radial inflow turbine in the OTEC application system as an example, based on the design, the turbine is optimized for the key parameters of the turbine stator and the influence of different geometric parameters is analyzed. Subsequently, the optimization results are verified by CFD numerical simulation analysis under different conditions. The results show that the number of stator blades has an important influence on the performance of the turbine. Further optimization studies have shown that through optimization, when the number of stator blades is 33, the internal flow field performance is the best, and the working conditions of the inlet and outlet working fluids are in accordance with the design points without obvious shock wave and reverse flow phenomenon, the efficiency is 89.46%, 3.94% higher than the design value.

The paper deals with the determination of the number of sapwood annual rings in oak (Quercus sp.) in relation to altitude, locality and stand age. Several different groups of samples were used from two localities of southern Moravia. The results of the study demonstrate the effects of site water regime and age on the growth of sapwood annual rings. On the other hand, the effect of altitude was not proved. The information can be of crucial importance for the dendrochronological dating of an incomplete sample for particular regions where sapwood is partly or totally missing.

This study examined the microbiological parameters of raw milk according to milking systems. The raw material milk was collected from 10 holdings with different forms of ownership, with different technical equipment and different milking systems. The microbiological parameters of milk from the period April 2021-March 2022 were analyzed, respectively the determination of NTG/ml in milk at 30°C and NCS by the electronic fluoro-opto method. According to EC Regulation 853/2004 for raw milk NTG at 30°C (per ml) ≤ 100,000, it follows that of the 10 holdings included in the research, 14 values of the geometric mean over a period of two months do not fall within the limit allowed according to the CE standard, and for NCS (per ml) ≤ 400,000, it follows that out of the 10 holdings included in the research, 7 values of the geometric mean for a period of three months do not fall within the limit allowed according to the CE standard.

2014
Miroslav MIMRA | Miroslav KAVKA | Karel TOMŠÍK | Marián STRUHÁR
The "boundary line analysis method" calculates the minimal total annual operational costs used for the optimisation of number of tractors owned by agricultural companies. This calculation reflects the actual need of tractors used in the selected time periods during a year. The above method is based on data gained during five day periods (so-called pentads) in the plant production Farm Estate Lány which belongs to the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. Based on the annual use of tractors in the company, operational costs involve tractors owned and hired. The calculated curve changes in relation to the total annual costs for the owned tractors. The economically optimal number of the owned tractors would be reached at the minimum point where the total annual costs curve is low whilst all working operations in the company have been done. Due to the use of tractors during the pentads, it is recommended to own exactly the number of tractor-machine sets given by the calculated minimum. For all the other works, it is advisable to use hired tractors, operationally leased tractors or outsourced services.

Entomophagy as an alternative way of eating in the Czech Republic is gaining more and more supporters. For this reason, we have focused on the microbial quality of the insect dry powder made from Tenebrio molitor during storage. In the samples were determined the major groups of microorganisms by standard procedures. It is the total number of microorganisms, aerobic microorganisms thermoresistant, E. coli and other coliform bacteria, micromycetes and bacteria of the genus Enterococcus. The highest increase of total microorganisms occurred after five months storage in the sample stored in a paper bag and cold, where their number reached a value of 2.870 log CFU/g. For the same sample, coliform bacteria at the rate of 1.839 log CFU/g were also detected. The other monitored groups of microorganisms were in the samples at most in the order of tens of CFU/g. The results of our research show that the microbiologically tested the insect dry powder is a very stable material. After eight months of storage, there was only a minimal increase in count of microorganisms. Based on the results, it is not possible to decide clearly which storage conditions are most appropriate. In our opinion, storage in a paper bag at a temperature of 22-23 °C is considered to be very convenient, whereas storage at 4-6 °C and 90% humidity cannot be recommended because of the higher incidence of mold due to high humidity in the refrigerator. Due to the small number of expert publications dealing with this issue, it is necessary to continue to address this topic. The research was developed with financial support from IGA IP24/2017.
