Embryo transfer as a means of improving productivity of livestock

Embryo transfer techniques with cattle are oulined, which involve superovulation, preservation of embryos usually by freezing and transfer of embryos to recipients. The potential uses are: introduction of new genotypes, continuous selection programmes, production of twins, determining the sex of embryos, cloning and preservation of rare genotypes. The first two applications are examined in greater detail
