Fungal infection of pomegranate fruits caused considerable changes in the phenol and sugar contents. The total phenols and sugars increased on the pericarp of Pseudocercosporella-infected pomegranate fruit. In fruits infected by Coniella, phenols in the pericarp were greatly reduced; there was an increase in the phenol content and a decrease of sugars in the seeds. There was not much change in total phenols and sugars in the case of Colletotrichum-infected fruit.
