Thyroid glands of male rats treated with estradiol dipropionate during the neonatal (3rd day), juvenile (16th day) or peripubertal (38th day) period of life were investigated. The following was established: the height of follicular epithelium was significantly reduced in all animals neonatally treated with estradiol; a significant decrease of follicular cell height was also evident in adult animals treated with estradiol during the juvenile period; in all experimental groups the follicular cell volume density was significantly reduced while the colloid volume was increased resulting in a diminution of the activation indices; the cysternoid GER and significantly less developed Golgi complexes were more prominent in follicular cells of animals treated during neonatal period than during later periods of development.
