Productive and economical efficiency and optimization of nitrogen fertilization of winter wheat and potatoes as influenced by irrigation

The experimental design included two factors: irrigation (when soil moisture decreased below 65-70 percent of field capacity, and the control treatment with a natural moisture content) and nitrogen fertilization (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 kg/ha). Irrigation resulted in a yield increase of winter wheat by 0.43 t/ha for grain, and by 0.64 t/ha for straw, and by 5.6 t/ha of potatoes. The yields and yield increments increased also under rising doses of nitrogen fertilization. Irrigation decreased but fertilization increased the nitrogen content of dry matter of both crops.
