The antimutagenicity potential of extracts from Cucurbita maxima, commonly known as squash, flowers was monitored using the Micronucleus Test, an in vivo method using albino mice as test animals. A bioassay directed fractionation and purification scheme using sequential and repeated liquid chromatographic techniques gave a white, crystalline solid, FwB crystals. Results of the Micronucleus Test showed that FwB crystals reduced the number of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes induced by tetracycline, a known mutagen, by 59.4 percent. Spectral analysis showed that the FwB crystal is an intractable mixture of closely related sterols
