Soil microbiological investigations were started at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture in 1994. Lupine, mixture of vetch and oat, fodder peas, white mustard and mixture of vetch and oat + clover as cover were tested as green manure. Early - season cabbage, second culture - garden radish; late - season cabbage and celery were cultivated after green manure. Amount of different microorganisms varied depending on the cultivated vegetable. The greatest number of actynomycetes, spore - forming and nitrogen fixing bacteria was established after harvesting early - season cabbage, second culture - garden radish.
