إنجليزي. Genetic analysis of seed yield in West African okra was carried out in twenty-one F1s and seven parents in a randomized complete block design with two replications, in a single location. The mean squares due to GCA and SCA were statistically significant. The estimated GCA variance was greater than the SCA variance. Parents 7 and 1 were identified as the best combiners for seed yield, while the cross P2 x P6 was the best specific combiner. Component analysis indicated that the additive gene effects were greater than the dominant gene effects. The F estimate was positive, indicating the presence of dominant increasing alleles in the inheritance of seed weight. The ratio of (DH1) + F/(DH1)-F = 1.00 was unity. The study indicated a partial dominance situation across loci (0.42) for seed yield. A high narrow sense heritability estimate for seed yield (0.75) suggests that a large portion of phenotypic variation was additive.
