anglais. Genetic analysis of seed yield in West African okra was carried out in twenty-one F1s and seven parents in a randomized complete block design with two replications, in a single location. The mean squares due to GCA and SCA were statistically significant. The estimated GCA variance was greater than the SCA variance. Parents 7 and 1 were identified as the best combiners for seed yield, while the cross P2 x P6 was the best specific combiner. Component analysis indicated that the additive gene effects were greater than the dominant gene effects. The F estimate was positive, indicating the presence of dominant increasing alleles in the inheritance of seed weight. The ratio of (DH1) + F/(DH1)-F = 1.00 was unity. The study indicated a partial dominance situation across loci (0.42) for seed yield. A high narrow sense heritability estimate for seed yield (0.75) suggests that a large portion of phenotypic variation was additive. Una stima elevata dell´ereditabilità in senso stretto per la resa in seme (0,75) fa ritenere che una porzione ampia della variazione fenotipica fosse additiva. Di qui la possibilità di miglioramento genetico per la resa in seme nell´okra dell´Africa Occidentale.]
