The aims of this study were to evaluate levels of Cd and Pb in relation to the maximum limits prescribed by national / international regulations, i.e., to investigate whether the concentrations of these metals were within the permissible limits, thus rendering these mussels acceptable for human consumption. In conclusion: Concentrations found for Cd and Pb indicate that the investigated mussels from Boka Kotorska bay pose no health risk to seafood consumers. Based on FAO/WHO recommended safe limit, Cd and Pb contents were within the permissible range established for safe human consumption.
