Аn experiment was carried out in the period 2006-2009 year at the Experimental Unit within the Department of Crop Production at the Agricultural University - AU, aimed at studying on the productivity and quality of grain of the following rye cultivars- Danae - standard, Bul Milenium, Recrut and Picasso of the soil and climatic conditions of the region of Plovdiv. The block method was applied and it was repeated four times, the yielding plot being 15 m2. The following conclusions have been made as a result of the research: The highest yield was produced by the Bul Milenium cultivar, averagely for the studied period – 344,7 kg/da and the grain amount overtopped the standard Danae by 43,8 kg/da 14,6% under the soil and climatic conditions of the Plovdiv region. Picasso exceeded the standard grain yield by 35,4 kg/da - 11,8%, and Recrut yielded 24,6 kg/da - 5.7% more harvested grain than the standard. The increase of the grain yield of the Bul Milenium cultivar, Picasso and Recrut cultivars was due to the formation of a bigger ear with a better grain-set and a higher grain-mass in the ear. The tested rye cultivars fell in line as far as the analyzed physical and chemical characteristics of the kernel were concerned. The only exceptions were the vitriouness and the protein content, due to the different cultivar response to the climatic growing conditions.
