In the studies conducted on whole day's meals of erderly people in the autumn season the fibre content was found to be at a level of 25-50 g, which frequently considerably exceeded that recommended by feeding standards (30 g/person/day). Reasons for such high levels of fibre in the studied food rations may have been a large percentage of cereal products in the diet, including brown bread and coarsly-hulled groats, as well as a great mass of rations, reaching 2200-2700 g
