Agrobiological parameters of various varieties and hybrids of sweet sorghum

Purpose. To reveal the features of agrobiological parameters formation of sweet sorghum various varieties and hybrids in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.Methods. During 2018–2020 twenty-one varieties and hybrids of sweet sorghum of various ecological and geographical origins (Ukraine, Russia, USA, France, Germany, Hungary, Brazil) were studied in the field. Parameters like plant height and indices of their individual productivity (grain weight per panicle, 1000 grain weight, etc.), yield of dry biomass and grain, content of sugar in juice and protein in grain, as well as estimated sugar and protein yield in a crop. The counts were carried out in the phase of physiological ripeness of the culture.Results. In the group of Ukrainian varieties and hybrids, the plants were from 272 to 306 cm high, in the foreign group – from 274 to 412 cm. Varieties ‘Red Amber’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Freed’ and ‘Early Orange’ are of high value for breeding practice, their plants were the tallest – from 388 to 412 cm. The panicle length of sweet sorghum cultivars of Ukrainian breeding ranged from 16.0 to 17.3 cm, foreign – from 11.0 to 19.4 cm. Grain weight from one panicle varied from 32.8 to 41.6 g and from 29.2 to 43.5 g, respectively. In a wide range, depending on the varietal characteristics, the indicator of the number of grains per panicle also varied from 1338 to 1708 pcs. The mass of 1000 grains of sweet sorghum ranged from 28.0 to 31.0 g in varieties and hybrids of Ukrainian breeding, in foreign ones – from 19.3 to 31.0 g. The yield of dry vegetative mass of cultivars of Ukrainian breeding was at the level of 8.24–9.11 t/ha. The highest rates were shown in hybrid ‘Mamont’ and ‘Huliver’ variety – 9.05 and 9.11 t/ha, respectively. For cultivars and hybrids of foreign breeding, this indicator varied from 7.00 to 12.17 t/ha. Significantly higher biomass in comparison with the standard variety (‘Sylosne 42’) was produced by ‘Vorai Sumac’, ‘Sorgo Cucre’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Freed’, ‘Red Amber’, ‘Mohavk’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Early Orange’ – 9.03–12.17 t/ha. The sugar content in sweet sorghum juice varied from 15.2 to 17.2%. The estimated sugar yield in Ukrainian cultivars was at the level of 0.82–0.89 t/ha, in foreign ones – from 0.72 to 1.18 t/ha. In all studied varieties it was the highest in ‘Sorgo Cucre’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Freed’, ‘Red Amber’, ‘Mohavk’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Early Orange’ – 0.94–1.18 t/ha.Conclusions. The productivity of sweet sorghum varies greatly depending on the origin of the variety and hybrid. In the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe, in order to obtain a high sugar yield, it is advisable to grow ‘Sylosne 42’, ‘Favoryt’, ‘Troistyi’, ‘Dovista’, ‘Huliver’ varieties and ‘Ananas’, ‘Medovyi’, ‘Mamont’ hybrids. Varieties ‘Vaconia Orange’, ‘Vorai Sumac’, ‘Sorgo Cucre’ and hybrids ‘Ald Sorghum’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Freed’, ‘Red Amber’, ‘Mohavk’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Early Orange’ provide high yields of vegetative masses. Hybrids ‘Freed’, ‘Affas CJ 899’ and ‘Early Orange’ produce a large vegetative mass (11.08–12.17 t/ha), grain yield (8.00–8.15 t/ha) and a high protein content (9.8–11.3%).

Purpose. To determine the effect of the basic organo-mineral fertilizer on the formation and stability of grain quality of winter wheat varieties in multiple crop rotation after black fallow as a predecessor.Methods. Field experiments were based on a multifactorial scheme using split-plot method with due regard to all requirements of the field experiment procedure, analysis of variance was used for statistical processing of the obtained results.Results. Investigation data was given concerning determination of grain quality indices in winter wheat varieties of different ecotypes after black fallow as a predecessor depending on organo-mineral fertilizer application in the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. In average for the period of investigation (2011–2015), the highest protein content in winter wheat grains was formed in no treatment variant [in such varieties as ‘Doridna’ (14.1%), ‘Dykanka’ (14.3%) and ‘Levada’ (14.2%)] and in case of organo-mineral fertilizer application [in the varieties ‘Hordovyta’ (14.0%), ‘Kalyta’ (14.0%), ‘Dykanka’ (14.7%) and ‘Levada’ (14.6%)]. The highest content of crude gluten in grains, without regard for the variant of the experiment, was found in the following varieties as ‘Dykanka’ (24.9–25.1%) and ‘Levada’ (23.7–25.4%).Conclusions. It was established that the content of protein and crude gluten in grains as well as the falling number of winter wheat was highly dependent on such factors as the variety and the year of cultivation as compared to the fertilizer background. The following varieties as ‘Hordovyta’, ‘Mulan’, Dykanka’ and ‘Levada’ were very sensitive to the application of organo-mineral fertilizer for the protein content, while ‘Hordovyta’ (2.4%), ‘Levada’ (1.7%), ‘Borvii’ (1.2%) and ‘Mulan’ (1.1%) – for the crude gluten content.

Мета. Оцінити якісні показники зерна сортів ячменю ярого, вирощуваного в різних ґрунтово-кліматичних умовах. Методи. Під час досліджень використовували лабораторний, розрахунковий і статистичний методи, для підготовки висновків – аналізу та синтезу. Результати. У результаті досліджень 2020–2021 рр. вдалося виявити вплив ґрунтово-кліматичних зон (Степу, Лісостепу й Полісся) та умов вирощування на такі показники якості різних сортів ячменю ярого, як вирівняність зерна і вміст білка. Так, вирівняність у різні роки випробувань коливалася від 86,7 (висока, Полісся) до 95,1% (дуже висока, Лісостеп). 2021 року завдяки сприятливим метеорологічним умовам періоду вегетації її показники вдалося збільшити, порівнюючи з 2020 р., на 4,3% у Степу, 4,6% в Лісостепу та майже на 6,0% у Поліссі. У середньому вирівняність зерна, вирощеного в різних філіях УІЕСР, зросла на 5,6%. Максимальні її значення отримано для сортів ‘Avus’ – 93,9% (Степ), ‘Novyi Svitanok’ – 94,5–96,6% (Полісся, Лісостеп). Залежно від ґрунтово-кліматичної зони та року випробування вміст білка в зерні варіювався від 10,9 (низький, Степ) до 13,4% (середній, Лісостеп). У середньому цей показник знижувався у 2021 р. на 2,5% проти 2020 р., і лише в зоні Полісся зафіксували його збільшення на 2,6%. Найвищий уміст білка виявлено в сортів ‘Істр’ – 13,5–13,9% (Степ і Лісостеп) та ‘Геркулес’ – 13,4% (Полісся). Сорти ‘Амадей’, ‘Істр’ і ‘Novyi Svitanok’ поєднали обидві господарсько-цінні ознаки. Оптимальна температура повітря та висока вирівняність сприяють збільшенню врожайності ячменю ярого. Водночас під час формування високого врожаю в культурі знижується вміст білка в зерні. Висновки. У середньому за 2020–2021 рр. вирівняність зерна ячменю ярого становила 92,3% (Степ), 95,4% (Лісостеп) і 93,2% (Полісся); вміст білка в насінні – 11,8% (Степ), 12,4% (Лісостеп) і 11,6% (Полісся). На формування якісних показників насіння ячменю ярого впливали умови вирощування, що склалися у відповідній ґрунтово-кліматичній зоні. | Purpose. To evaluate the quality indicators of spring barley seeds grown under different soil and climatic conditions. Methods. Laboratory, calculation and statistical methods were used during the research, analysis and synthesis methods were used to draw conclusions. Results. As a result of research, the dependence of spring barley quality indicators, namely: grain uniformity and protein content, on soil and climatic zones and growing conditions was revealed. Thus, grain uniformity ranged from 86.7% (high, Polissia) to 95.1% (very high, Forest Steppe) in the different test years. In 2021, thanks to favorable meteorological conditions during the growing season, its indicators increased by 4.3% in the Steppe, 4.6% in the Forest Steppe and almost 6.0% in Polissia compared to 2020. On average, the uniformity of grain grown in different branches of UIPVE increased by 5.6%. The maximum values were obtained for the varieties ‘Avus’ – 93.9% (Steppe), ‘Novyi Svitanok’ – 94.5–96.6% (Polissia, Forest Steppe). Depending on the soil and climate zone and the year of the experiment, the protein content in the grain varied from 10.9 (low, Steppe) to 13.4% (medium, Forest Steppe). On average, this indicator decreased by 2.5% in 2021 compared to 2020, and only in the Polissia zone it increased by 2.6%. The highest protein content was found in the varieties ‘Istr’ – 13.5–13.9% (Steppe and Forest Steppe) and ‘Hercules’ – 13.4% (Polissia). The varieties ‘Amadei’, ‘Istr’ and ‘Novyi Svitanok’ combined both economic and valuable traits. Optimum air temperature and high grain uniformity contribute to increasing the yield of spring barley. At the same time, during the formation of a high yield in the culture, the protein content in the grain decreases. Conclusions. It was revealed that, on average, in 2020–2021, the uniformity of spring barley grain was 92.3% (Steppe), 95.4% (Forest Steppe) and 93.2% (Polissia); the protein content in the grains was 11.8% (Steppe), 12.4% (Forest Steppe) and 11.6% (Polissia). The formation of quality indicators of spring barley seeds was influenced by the growing conditions in the relevant soil and climatic zone.

Purpose. To evaluate the productivity and grain quality of winter triticale varieties grown under different soil and climatic conditions. Methods. The research process involved laboratory, computational and statistical methods, and analysis and synthesis to draw conclusions. Results. HTC (IV–X) was found to vary significantly monthly, annually and in general between the research sites. It was found that the yield of winter triticale varieties in the Forest-Steppe and Polissia zones was 5.3 t/ha. The maximum yield in the Forest-Steppe zone was achieved by the variety ‘MIP Feniks’ (5.9 t/ha), in the Polissia zone by the variety ‘Pamiati Patseky’ (5.8 t/ha). It was found that the protein content of winter triticale varieties for the 2019–2020 research years in the Forest-Steppe zone was on average 12.6% and ranged from 12.2% (‘Liubomyr’) to 13.3% (‘MIP Yatahan’), which according to the classifier corresponded to grain of medium quality and can be used in the confectionery industry. The coefficient of variation (V,%) for this characteristic was 3.5%. In the Polissia zone, the protein content of the varieties averaged 13.6% over the years of research and ranged from 12.9% – medium content (‘MIP Feniks’) to 14.3% – high content (‘MIP Yatahan’). The intrazone variation was low and amounted to 4.0%. Correlation and regression analysis showed that an increase in the active temperature during the vegetation period up to 3203 оС allows an increase in the productivity indicators and in the weight of 1000 grains from 5.6 to 6.1 t/ha and from 46.8 to 53.5 g, respectively; an increase in precipitation during the vegetation period up to 515.1 mm leads to a decrease in the weight of 1000 grains from 45.2 to 38.1 g; with an increase in the amount of active temperatures and precipitation during the vegetation period from 3167.65 to 3202.9 оС and from 413.85 to 515.1 mm, respectively, it is possible to increase the protein content in grain from 12.4 to 13.8%; with an increase in the yield and weight of 1000 grains from 5.8 to 6.1 t/ha and from 51.8 to 53.8 g, the protein content of the grain can be reduced from 13.1 to 12.0%. Conclusions. Different responses of varieties to zonal growing conditions were observed. A positive influence of the rainfall factor during the growing season on the yield of winter triticale in Forest-Steppe and Polissia (r = 0.66 and 0.34 units) and on the increase of the protein content of grain grown in the Polissia zone (r = 0.56) was revealed. | Мета. Оцінити продуктивність та якість зерна сортів тритикале озимого, вирощуваного в різних ґрунтово-кліматичних умовах. Методи. У процесі досліджень використовували лабораторний, розрахунковий і статистичний методи, для підготовки висновків – аналізу та синтезу. Результати. Виявлено суттєву зміну ГТК (IV–X) щомісячно, щорічно і загалом по локаціях проведення досліджень. Визначено, що врожайність сортів тритикале озимого в зонах Лісостепу й Полісся становила 5,3 т/га. Максимальні її показники в лісостеповій зоні отримано для сорту ‘МІП Фенікс’ (5,9 т/га), у поліській – для ‘Пам’яті Пацеки’ (5,8 т/га). Середній уміст білка в зерні досліджуваних рослин за 2019–2020 рр. у Лісостепу становив 12,6% (від 12,2% у сорту ‘Любомир’ до 13,3% у ‘МІП Ятаган’), що, за класифікатором, відповідає зерну середньої якості, придатному для використання в кондитерській промисловості. Коефіцієнт варіації (V,%) за цією ознакою – 3,5%. Усереднена кількість білка для вирощуваних на Поліссі сортів тритикале озимого – 13,6% (від 12,9% у ‘МІП Фенікс’ до 14,3% (високий уміст) у ‘МІП Ятаган’). Варіація в межах зони становила 4,0% – слабка. Кореляційно-регресійним аналізом встановлено, що збільшення суми активних температур до 3203 °С у період вегетації може спричинити підвищення показників урожайності та маси 1000 зерен із 5,6 до 6,1 т/га та з 46,8 до 53,5 г відповідно; збільшення суми опадів у період вегетації до 515,1 мм призводить до зменшення маси 1000 зерен із 45,2 до 38,1 г; за умови підвищення суми активних температур і кількості опадів під час вегетації з 3167,65 до 3202,9 оС та з 413,85 до 515,1 мм можливе збільшення вмісту білка в зерні з 12,4 до 13,8%; у разі збільшення врожайності й маси 1000 зерен із 5,8 до 6,1 т/га та з 51,8 до 53,8 г відповідно вміст білка в зерні може зменшуватися від 13,1 до 12,0%. Висновки. Встановлено різну реакцію сортів на зональні умови вирощування. Виявлено позитивний вплив фактору кількості опадів у період вегетації на врожайність тритикале озимого в Лісостепу та на Поліссі (r = 0,66 та 0,34 одиниці), а також на збільшення вмісту білка в зерні рослин, вирощених на Поліссі (r = 0,56).

Purpose. Create a new source material of soybeans without pubescence, determine its selection value for the efficient use of processed products in animal nutrition, which will ensure high productivity of the latter. Quantitative and qualitative indicators of seeds are important economic and valuable features. The lack of pubescence on plants is unique. Methods. Field, special, laboratory and mathematical-statistical. Results. The minimum fat content of 20.88% was observed in the seeds of the non-pubescent variety ‘Kobra’, 23.73% in the line No 305, and 25.02% in the line No 22. The varieties ‘Diamant’ and ‘Antratsyt’ had a high fat content – 24.08–25.83%. The protein content in the green mass of promising lines was very low – up to 16%. The fat content was in the range of 2.1–5.3% with the maximum value in the lines No 3 and No 7 – 4.67–5.26%. The protein content in ‘Anakonda’ seeds and No 1 and No 9 lines was 36–37%, in standard varieties – at the level of 29.5–35.63%. A comparison of new non-pubescent lines with standard varieties and the most productive varieties ‘Diamant’ and ‘Adamos’, which are included in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine and meet the requirements for efficient use in fodder production. Conclusions. Lack of pubescence in soybean plants is an extremely rare and atypical phenomenon. There are no such varieties in the state register of plant varieties of Ukraine. More than 50 non-pubescent lines exceed the indicators of economic suitability of national standards and modern varieties. Lines No 4, No 5, No 7, No 8, which had more than 15% protein in the green mass, should be involved in the selection process to create fodder varieties. The ‘Anakonda’ line has a nutritional value with a minimum content of linolenic acid in the oil (6.08%). Increased oleic acid content was observed in varieties ‘Adamos’ (35.01%), ‘Diamant’ (33.53%), ‘Ametyst’ (31.39%).

Purpose. To study the protein content and other economically valuable traits in soybean varieties of various origin, to determine the stability and plasticity indicators of these traits, as well as to identify varieties that are promising for use in breeding programs. Methods. Field, laboratory, biochemical and statistical. Results. In total 22 soybean varieties of various origin in terms of yield, protein and oil content in seeds were investigated. High-yield and high-plasticity varieties are distinguished: ‘Muza’, ‘Mentor’, ‘Asuka’, ‘Valas’, ‘Kofu’, ‘Asuka’, ‘Cardif’, ‘Alligator’, ‘Vyshyvanka’, ‘Suziria’ and varieties of domestic breeding with stable yield ‘Siverka’, ‘Vilshanka’, ‘Ustia’, and also the ‘Lisbon’ variety. High protein content was noted in the variety ‘Opus’ – 45.0% in 2017. This variety on average for three years showed 43.63% of the protein in the seeds, and was second after the ‘Ustia’ variety (44.3%). The highest value of the regression coefficient b = 4.289 was observed in the ‘Lisbon’ variety, which shows its high sensitivity to growing conditions with a fairly low average seed protein content of 38.60%, as well as the variety ‘Silesia’ b = 4.289 with an average protein value of 42,73%. Standard variety ‘Muza’ with a low protein content of 38.60% was quite stable in the expression of this characteristic – S2 = 0.222. A number of high-oil varieties were distinguished: ‘Valas’ – 22.77%, ‘Sigalia’ – 22.7%, ‘Alligator’, ‘Siverka’ – 22.53%, ‘Kofu’ – 22.13%, standard variety ‘Muza’ – 21.77%. Conclusions. In breeding programs aimed at increasing the protein content in seeds, the following varieties should be used: ‘Opus’ – as a carrier of the maximum value of the trait, as well as ‘Ustia’, ‘Asuka’, ‘Silesia’ and ‘Kasidi’ as combining high yield and high protein content. The weather conditions of the year in different ways influenced on the manifestation of the studied traits: in a favorable year for obtaining high yields, the protein content in the seeds decreased, the high protein content accumulated in a drier year, and the oil content in seeds changed insignificantly.

Purpose. To select promising high productive maize hybrids of middle-early maturity group in terms of stability and plasticity of main economic characters. Methods. Field study, laboratory test, analytical procedure and statistical evaluation. Results. 14 maize hybrids recorded in the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine in 2015 were studied for plasticity and stability of such traits as productivity, protein and starch content. Intensive highly-plastic hybrid ‘SI Tiptop’ was selected among the studied ones for productivity trait that can respond properly to changes of growing conditions. It was defined that for the starch content such hybrids as ‘SI Tiptop’, ‘SI Enigma’, ‘SI Arioso’, ‘Svich 38’, ‘Svich 35’, ‘HU 8653’, ‘Zdobutok’ and ‘SI Contrakt’ belonged to the intensive type and combined rather high values and the stability of the studied trait under variable conditions. The following hybrids as ‘NS 2642’, ‘DK S3016’, ‘Svich 38’, ‘NS 2632’ were qualified as intensive for protein content and appeared to be highly-plastic but stability values of this trait were low. ‘Svich 38’ hybrid was intensive simultaneously for two traits such as protein and starch content and showed rather high values of plasticity. ‘SI Tiptop’, ‘SI Enigma’ and ‘Svich 35’ were defined as hybrids of extensive type that provided stable protein content in adverse cultivation conditions. Conclusions. On the condition that intensive crop growing technologies should be used, for obtaining stable yields it is advisable to sow only highly-plastic hybrids that can adapt to unfavorable environmental factors, including ‘SI Tiptop’ – for productivity trait, ‘Zdobutok’ and ‘SI Kontrakt’ – for starch content, ‘MAC 24N‘, ‘NA 2642‘ and ‘Danubio’ – for protein content.

Over 86% of Winter Wheat varieties bred by Ukrainian breeders are classified according to their quality to the strong and valuable, in contrast to 14 % of foreign varieties. This is the evidence of the Ukrainian breeding varieties ability to compete.

Мета. Здійснити комплексне вивчення та оцінювання нових сортів сої культурної [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] ранньої групи стиглості (тривалість періоду вегетацій – 91–110 діб) за морфологічними ознаками та основними господарськоцінними показниками: врожайністю, вмістом олії та білка. Методи. Польові дослідження з кваліфікаційної експертизи сортів сої культурної виконували впродовж 2022–2023 рр. у десяти філіях Українського інституту експертизи сортів рослин (УІЕСР) в межах ґрунтовокліматичних зон Степу, Лісостепу та Полісся. У процесі спиралися на чинні методики проведення кваліфікаційної експертизи сортів рослин на придатність для поширення в Україні (ПСП), визначення показників якості продукції рослинництва й відповідності сортів критеріям відмінності, однорідності та стабільності (ВОС). Результати. Здійснено оцінювання морфологічних ознак, урожайності та якості зерна нових ранньостиглих сортів української селекції, внесених до Державного реєстру сортів рослин, придатних для поширення в Україні. А саме: ‘Златопільська’, ‘Кобуко’, ‘АФК Темпо’, ‘АФК Фест’, ‘Господиня’ та ‘Санрайз’. Найурожайнішими в усіх ґрунтовокліматичних зонах виявилися сорти ‘АФК Темпо’ (Степ – 3,25 т/га, Лісостеп – 3,64, Полісся – 3,63 т/га) та ‘Кобуко’ (Степ – 3,03 т/га, Лісостеп – 3,68, Полісся – 3,42 т/га). Водночас ‘Златопільська’, ‘Кобуко’, ‘АФК Темпо’, ‘АФК Фест’ і ‘Санрайз’ формували максимальну врожайність у Лісостепу [від 2,89 (‘Златопільська’) до 3,68 т/га (‘Кобуко’)], а ‘Господиня’ – на Поліссі (2,83 т/га). Найвищим вмістом білка в зерні відзначились ‘Златопільська’ (38,4–40,3%) та ‘Санрайз’ (37,9–40,6%), олії – ‘АФК Фест’ (23,3–24,3%). Висновки. За результатами кваліфікаційної експертизи сорти сої культурної ‘Златопільська’, ‘Кобуко’ та ‘АФК Темпо’ рекомендовано для вирощування в усіх ґрунтовокліматичних зонах; ‘Санрайз’ – у Степу та Лісостепу; ‘Господиня’ – у Степу та на Поліссі; ‘АФК Фест’ – лише в Степу. Ліпші показники якості за вмістом білка має насіння, одержане в лісостеповій зоні, а за вмістом олії – у степовій. Досліджувані сорти сої культурної відповідають критеріям відмінності, однорідності та стабільності, а також вимогам до придатності для поширення в Україні. | Purpose. To carry out a comprehensive study and evaluation of new varieties of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] of the early maturity group (vegetation period – 91–110 days) by morphological characteristics and the main economic indicators: yield, oil and protein content. Methods. Field studies on the qualification examination of soybean varieties were carried out during 2022–2023 in ten branches of the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE) within the soil and climatic zones of the Steppe, ForestSteppe and Polissia. The process was based on the existing methods of qualification examination of plant varieties for their suitability for distribution in Ukraine (VCU), determination of quality indicators of crop production and compliance of varieties with the criteria of distinctness, uniformity and stability (DUS). Results. The morphological characteristics, yield and grain quality of new early maturing varieties of Ukrainian breeding, included in the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Distribution in Ukraine, were evaluated. Namely: ‘Zlatopilska’, ‘Kobuko’, ‘AFC Tempo’, ‘AFC Fest’, ‘Hospodynia’ and ‘Sunrise’. The most productive varieties in all soil and climate zones were ‘AFC Tempo’ (Steppe – 3.25 t/ha, ForestSteppe – 3.64, Polissia – 3.63 t/ha) and ‘Kobuko’ (Steppe – 3.03 t/ha, ForestSteppe – 3.68, Polissia – 3.42 t/ha). At the same time, ‘Zlatopilska’, ‘Kobuko’, ‘AFC Tempo’, ‘AFC Fest’ and ‘Sunrise’ produced the highest yields in ForestSteppe [from 2.89 t/ha (‘Zlatopilska’) to 3.68 t/ha (‘Kobuko’)] and ‘Hospodynia’ – in Polissia (2.83 t/ha). ‘Zlatopilska’ (38.4–40.3%) and ‘Sunrise’ (37.9–40.6%) had the highest protein content in the grain and ‘AFC Fest’ (23.3–24.3%) the highest oil content. Conclusions. According to the results of the qualification examination, varieties of soybean ‘Zlatopilska’, ‘Kobuko’ and ‘AFC Tempo’ are recommended for cultivation in all soil and climatic zones; ‘Sunrise’ – in the Steppe and ForestSteppe; ‘Hospodynia’ – in the Steppe and Polissia; ‘AFC Fest’ – only in the Steppe. Seeds produced in the ForestSteppe zone have the best quality indicators in terms of protein content, and in terms of oil content – in the Steppe zone. The studied varieties of soybeans meet the criteria of distinctness, uniformity and stability, as well as the requirements for suitability for distribution in Ukraine.

Purpose. To evaluate the productivity and grain quality of winter triticale varieties grown under different soil and climatic conditions. Methods. The research process involved laboratory, computational and statistical methods, and analysis and synthesis to draw conclusions. Results. HTC (IV–X) was found to vary significantly monthly, annually and in general between the research sites. It was found that the yield of winter triticale varieties in the Forest-Steppe and Polissia zones was 5.3 t/ha. The maximum yield in the Forest-Steppe zone was achieved by the variety ‘MIP Feniks’ (5.9 t/ha), in the Polissia zone by the variety ‘Pamiati Patseky’ (5.8 t/ha). It was found that the protein content of winter triticale varieties for the 2019–2020 research years in the Forest-Steppe zone was on average 12.6% and ranged from 12.2% (‘Liubomyr’) to 13.3% (‘MIP Yatahan’), which according to the classifier corresponded to grain of medium quality and can be used in the confectionery industry. The coefficient of variation (V,%) for this characteristic was 3.5%. In the Polissia zone, the protein content of the varieties averaged 13.6% over the years of research and ranged from 12.9% – medium content (‘MIP Feniks’) to 14.3% – high content (‘MIP Yatahan’). The intrazone variation was low and amounted to 4.0%. Correlation and regression analysis showed that an increase in the active temperature during the vegetation period up to 3203 оС allows an increase in the productivity indicators and in the weight of 1000 grains from 5.6 to 6.1 t/ha and from 46.8 to 53.5 g, respectively; an increase in precipitation during the vegetation period up to 515.1 mm leads to a decrease in the weight of 1000 grains from 45.2 to 38.1 g; with an increase in the amount of active temperatures and precipitation during the vegetation period from 3167.65 to 3202.9 оС and from 413.85 to 515.1 mm, respectively, it is possible to increase the protein content in grain from 12.4 to 13.8%; with an increase in the yield and weight of 1000 grains from 5.8 to 6.1 t/ha and from 51.8 to 53.8 g, the protein content of the grain can be reduced from 13.1 to 12.0%. Conclusions. Different responses of varieties to zonal growing conditions were observed. A positive influence of the rainfall factor during the growing season on the yield of winter triticale in Forest-Steppe and Polissia (r = 0.66 and 0.34 units) and on the increase of the protein content of grain grown in the Polissia zone (r = 0.56) was revealed.
