A new characteristics of social structure of tree stands was introduced for simplifying investigations; it was named - the average Kraft's class. This characteristic expresses a mean social position of a tree stand or of a group of trees. A formula for counting the average Kraft's class for a tree stand was given. Connections of average Kraft's class with distribution of trees in social classes were discussed, and a relation of this class to tree stand age, number of trees were also discussed. The average Kraft's class may be considered as one of features indicating for a need of silvicultural measures in tree stands. Intensity of such a measure should be as greater as higher is the value of an average Kraft's class

Elements Associated with the Cadmium Phase in a Harbor Sediment as Determined with the Electron Beam Microprobe النص الكامل

A heavy metal-contaminated harbor sediment was examined with the electron beam microprobe in order to obtain specific information with regard to the elements associated with the Cd phase(s). Approximately 4.4 × 10⁴ particles were scanned in order to locate 18 that produced > 100 counts/s Cd Kα X-radiation. Of these Cd-rich particles, 72% were < 10 µm in diameter. For these particles, Cd was most frequently associated with S (in ca. 89% of the particles, presumably as S²⁻), rather than with the carbonate indicated by a chemical extraction method on the whole soil. Zinc was also significantly associated with Cd (in ca. 72% of the particles). Cadmium appeared to be precipitated with the associated elements rather than being adsorbed on the surfaces of the selected 18 particles. The formation of Cd sulfides in the sediment can be predicted from thermodynamic calculations, combined with a few reasonable assumptions.

DEUTSCH: Acht jungen Ratten (90 bis 100g Koerpergewicht) wurde eine orale Dosis von 75mg 15-N-Glycin verabreicht. Bei den vier Ratten, die eine Guarmehldiaet (8%ig) erhielten, wurde gegenueber der Kontrollgruppe eine signifikante Verringerung der scheinbaren Proteinverdaulichkeit und der N-Bilanz festgestellt. Nach einem anfaenglichen steilen Anstieg verlief die 15-N-Elimination in Kot und Urin vom 2. bis 8. Tag nach der 15-N-Glycin-Applikation exponentiell in mindestens zwei Phasen mit steigender Halbwertszeit. Aus den experimentell ermittelten Tageswerten des 15-N-Atom-%-Ueberschusses in Urin und Kot wurde der Anteil des endogenen Stickstoffs im gesamten Kotstickstoff berechnet. Durch Guarmehlzusatz erhoehte sich der Anteil des endogenen Kotstickstoffs von 51% (Kontrollgruppe) auf 73%, was einem Anstieg von 10mgN/Tag auf 32mgN/Tag entspricht. Diese Differenz von 22mgN/Tag ist vergleichbar mit dem um 24mg/Tag erhoehten N-Verlust im Kot der Tiere in der Guarmehlgruppe. Demnach sind die durch Guarmehl verursachten erhoehten N-Verluste fast ausschliesslich durch eine vermehrte endogene N-Sekretion und nicht durch unverdautes Nahrungsprotein bedingt. Der Anteil des aus Darmbakterien stammenden Kot-N wurde bestimmt (2,6-Diamino-pimelinsaeure-Analyse): Er betrug 19,8% (Kontrollgruppe) bzw. 30,1% (Guarmehlgruppe) des Gesamt-Kot-N bzw. 39,4% (Kontrollgruppe) und 44,4% (Guarmehlgruppe) des endogenen Kot-N. Folgerung ist, dass die erhoehte Ballaststoffzufuhr auch eine vermehrte Ausscheidung an endogenem Stickstoff in Form von N-haltigen Sekreten und Epithelzellen des Magen-Darm-Traktes bewirkt hat.
