It is demonstrated that rapid cryopreservation is feasible with sheep embryos; a survival rate of 32 percent was achieved with blastocysts and late blastocysts that were exposed to the vitrification medium for 0.5 min at 4-12 deg. C. Longer exposures and earlier development stages reduced the success of the technique.
