A chiral ferrocene (Cpᴱ₂Fe) was synthesized by reaction of CpᴱLi with FeCl₂(THF)₁.₅ The cyclopentadienyl ligand Cpᴱ contains a dimethylamino group that is separated from the Cp backbone by two stereogenic carbon centres. Reaction of Cpᴱ₂Fe with excess Mel affords the ammonium salt Cpᴱ₂Fe.2MeI. Its solid state structure was determined by X-ray diffraction methods.
