Frequency of early ripening seedlings bearing middle or big fruits in the progeny families was estimated. Estimated values and observed values were compared, using sixteen families and their parental cultivars. Frequency distributions among seedlings within family of the fruit ripening time index (FRTI) and fruit weight could be approximated to a normal distribution. Negative correlations and positive correlations were detected between the mid-parental value of FRTI and the frequency of early ripening seedlings as well as between the mid-parental value of FRTI and the frequency of seedlings bearing fruit exceeding 200g, respectively. When the mid-parental value of FRTI was approximately 120, observed values of the frequency of early ripening seedlings bearing a fruit exceeding 200g in the progeny families were highest
