English. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of aversive conditioning and duration of exposure in ewes to avoid the consumption of the orange plants. Thirty-two Pelibuey ewes were alloted in two conditioned treatments (n=16): LiCl and No LiCl. Each group was further divided into two according to duration of exposure (n=8): 10 or 20 days to leaucaena (L) and orange (O) plants. No LiCl ewes presented a higher intake in O campared to LiCl ewes. The results show that aversive conditioning could be useful to train ewes to avoid the ingestion of palatable plants while grazing orchards

Treinta y dos ovejas Pelibuey fueron divididas en dos tipos de acondicionamiento: CILi y sin CILi. Cada grupo fue ademas subdividido en dos periodos de exposicion: 10 o 20 dias a las plantas de leucaena y naranja. El indice de preferencia por la N fue mayor en las ovejas sin CILi. Las ovejas sin CILi presentaron un mayor consumo de N comparado con las ovejas con CILi. Se concluye que el acondicionamiento aversivo puede ser de utilidad para evitar el consumo de plantas palatables por ovinos cuando pastorean en plantaciones
