English. The authors report on serious damage to cultivated orchid species caused by Zonitoides nitidus O.F. Muller. The snail, referred to as noxious for the first time, feeds on buds, roots, rhizome and leaves. Efficacious chemical control was obtained with nethiocarb in preventive treatments on the substrate as well as on the growing plants.

Il mollusco, segnalato per la prima volta come dannoso, si nutre di gemme, radici, rizomi e foglie. Tale fitofago e stato controllato efficacemente con l'uso del methiocarb distribuito sia in trattamenti preventivi del substrato che sulla coltura in atto.
