Effects of osmotic pretreatment on drying dietary fibers from sugar beet pulp
Levic, Lj. | Kuljanin, T. | Jokic, A.(Tehnoloski fakultet, Novi Sad (Serbia and Montenegro))
Dietary fibers are necessary in human nutrition and good source of dietary fiber is sugar beet pulp. For prolonged nutrition quality and storage of sugar beet pulp it is necessary to dry it, so that dry matter content is enhanced. Osmotic dehydratation, in which we use hypertonic solutions of different compounds, preferably sugar, can be used as a pretreatment to remove a significant amount of water before drying the sugar beet pulp with other conventional drying processes.
